ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University track & field team recorded eight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference automatic qualifying marks at the Ashland Alumni Open Saturday at Ashland University.
 
The Rock sent a limited roster to Ashland with just the sprinters and hurdlers making the trip while the rest of the team competed at Shippensburg University and the Penn Relays this weekend.
 
AJ Virata led the way at Ashland with a win in the 200-meter dash and a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash. He clocked a time of 21.43 seconds to win the 200m and ran 10.64 seconds in the 100m. Virata was joined in reaching the PSAC mark in the 200m by Kyle Rauchut, who took sixth in 22.05 seconds.
 
Kadin Johnson led the way in the 400-meter dash with a fourth place finish in 48.83 seconds. Matthew Crow was fourth in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles in 14.84 seconds and Cade Adams was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.47 seconds to cap the top efforts on the men's side.
 
Annasophia Stauffer led the women's squad with a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash in a PSAC qualifying time of 58.90 seconds. Chaley Younkin rounded out the PSAC marks for the women with a 12th place showing in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.12 seconds.

Slippery Rock will host the SRU Last Chance Meet next Friday as a final tune-up before hosting the PSAC Championships May 8-10.
