RALEIGH, N.C. – The Slippery Rock University track & field team broke two school records at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University this weekend with the men's 4x100-meter relay and women's steeplechase records falling.
 
The Rock took only 10 total athletes to Raleigh this weekend with three women and seven men making the trip. The group came away with two SRU records, two NCAA provisional marks and six PSAC automatic qualifying marks.
 
Anna Igims led the way in the individual events when she shattered her own SRU record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday evening. She took 14th overall and was the only Division II finisher in a highly competitive Division I field after she clocked a time of 10:19.02. That lowered her former record of 10:24.93 that she set last spring. Her time currently ranks No. 1 among all athletes in Division II.
 
The men's 4x100-meter relay squad of Benny Whitaker, AJ Virata, Matthew Crow and Kanye Thompson followed that up Saturday by placing sixth overall and tying the SRU school record with an NCAA provisional time of 40.50 seconds. That effort matches the same time set last spring at the PSAC Championships by Virata, Crow, Thompson and Jacob Thompson. The 40.50-second effort currently sits No. 7 in Division II this spring.
 
Crow also clocked a pair of PSAC marks in the hurdle races, running 14.83 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 54.38 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. Thompson and Virata both hit PSAC marks in the 100-meter dash with Thompson running 10.78 seconds and Virata running 10.81 seconds. Virata then closed out the meet by hitting the PSAC standard in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.68 seconds.
 
The rest of the SRU track & field teams traveled to West Virginia this weekend to compete at the Tim Weaver Invitational hosted by West Liberty. Full recaps of those meets will be posted later Saturday evening (results HERE).
