Results

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's indoor track & field team sits first in the team standings after the opening day of the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up Saturday evening from Lehigh University.

Defending champion Slippery Rock picked up 40 team points Saturday in the six event finals that were contested on the opening day of the meet and will take a 4.5-point lead over Shippensburg into Sunday after the Raiders put up 35.5 points Saturday. East Stroudsburg is also in the mix with 32.75 points with Edinboro (27) and Millersville (20) rounding out the top five in the team standings.

Slippery Rock picked up one event win with the distance medley relay team repeating as champions and broke two school records with Samantha Gilbert posting the fastest preliminary round times in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. The Rock also landed three All-PSAC individuals in addition to the relay team with Ruthie Hughes, Savannah Schneck and Allie Taylor all scoring top three finishes in their respective events.

The DMR team of Jennifer Cichra (1,200m), Annasophia Stauffer (400m), Tatiana Holt (800m) and Anna Igims (1,600m) kicked off the day with a victory in the first event on the track when they ran away from the field to win in 12:11.79. The Rock never trailed in the race, with each leg handing off in front before Igims brought home the win.

SRU scored nine points in the pole vault with Taylor leading the way after she cleared a career-best of 3.65 meters to finish third and earn her first career All-PSAC honor. Grace Parrett also cleared a career-best of 3.50 meters to place sixth and score three points. Taylor actually cleared the same mark as the two athletes that finished 1-2, but missed out on the jump-off due to misses.

Hughes was the highest finishing individual for SRU Saturday when she took second in the 5,000-meter run in a slow and tactical race in 17:53.16. She led the final mile before being passed in the home stretch and scoring eight points for the team.

Schneck led the way in the weight throw with her first career All-PSAC honor after she took third with a toss of 16.34 meters to grab six points for the team.

The Rock scored five points in the long jump with Aleks Brozeski and Baylee Blauser both picking up points. Brozeski was sixth with a leap of 5.46 meters and Blauser was seventh with a mark of 5.45 meters.

The final points of the day for SRU came from Maddy Miller, who finished seventh in the pentathlon with a score of 2,999 points.

In addition to the six event finals contested Saturday, preliminary rounds for the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash were also contested on the track. Slippery Rock qualified at least one athlete into Sunday's finals in all four events and had the No. 1 qualifier in three of the four.

Gilbert led the way with a pair of career-best efforts in the short sprints. After she failed to score in the long jump early in the day, she bounced back in emphatic fashion by shattering her own SRU record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.50 seconds. That topped her previous best of 7.63 seconds and stood as the No. 1 time in the prelims. Regan Johnson also clocked a season-best of 7.77 seconds to post the No. 4 time in the prelims and earn a spot in Sunday's final.

Gilbert then closed her day by breaking another SRU record when she posted the fastest prelim time in the 200-meter dash at 25.10 seconds. That effort breaks the former SRU record of 25.23 seconds that was set by Jasmine Bailey in 2016. Johnson also posted a time of 25.73 seconds to earn the No. 8 qualifying spot in Sunday's final to give SRU two entries in both short sprint finals.

Freshman Jianna Long won her prelim heat in the 400-meter dash with the fastest time of the day at 58.48 seconds to earn the No. 1 seed in Sunday's final.

Chaley Younkin rounded out the top performances of the day when she posted the No. 4 qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles with a career-best effort of 9.05 seconds.

With at least one athlete qualified for the finals in all four prelims, The Rock will now have at least one entry in all 11 event finals that will be contested Sunday.
