ASHLAND, Ohio –
Anna Igims and
Samantha Gilbert broke their own program records to lead the Slippery Rock University women's track & field team to 23 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and three NCAA provisional marks at the Jud Logan Light Giver Invitational that wrapped up Saturday night from Ashland University.
Â
Igims hit two of those three NCAA marks with both of them coming a few hours apart on Saturday. She kicked off her day by breaking her own SRU record in the mile with a second place finish in 4:55.10. That effort topped her previous SRU record of 4:56.84 that was set last year. Igims then closed the day by taking second in the 3,000-meter run with an NCAA provisional time of 9:52.72. She was joined in hitting the PSAC standard in the mile by
Jennifer Cichra, who was 21st in 5:12.93. Cichra also hit the PSAC standard in the 800-meter run with a 22nd place finish in 2:21.99.
Â
The other NCAA mark this weekend came from freshman sprinter
Jianna Long, who lowered her season-best time in the 400-meter dash to 56.60 seconds to take eighth in the "elite" section of the 400m Saturday. That effort comes in just under the NCAA standard of 56.66 seconds. Long closed out her day by teaming with Gilbert,
Alice Bogia and
Lydia Reed to take seventh in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:58.22.
Â
SRU nearly had a fourth NCAA mark this weekend with Gilbert placing second in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 7.64 seconds. That effort broke her own SRU record of 7.65 seconds from 2023, but was just one one-hundredth of a second off the NCAA mark of 7.63 seconds. Gilbert competed in four different events this weekend and was top-10 in all four of them. She took eighth in the 200-meter dash in 25.90 seconds and was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.46 meters, in addition to her effort on the relay.
Â
Gilbert was joined in reaching the PSAC standard in the 60-meter dash by
Regan Johnson, who was 16th in 7.86 seconds.
Chaley Younkin took 13th in the 60-meter hurdles and Reed was third in the unseeded section of the 400-meter dash in 59.03 seconds to cap the top efforts of the sprinters.
