ALLIANCE, Ohio –
Seaton Wozniak broke the school record in the shot put for the second week in a row to lead the Slippery Rock University men's indoor track & field team to 15 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference automatic qualifying marks and four event wins Friday night at the Mount Union Tune-Up hosted by the University of Mount Union.
Â
Friday's meet wrapped up just after 11 p.m. in what was the final tune-up and qualifying opportunity before next week's PSAC Championships.
Â
Wozniak picked up where he left off last week when he set the SRU program record in the shot put with a mark of 17.33 meters. He upped that record for the second week in a row when he won the competition Friday night with a new career-best of 17.58 meters. That effort moves him up two places on the national list to No. 14 among all Division II throwers this winter.
Â
Wozniak led a 1-2-3 sweep in the shot put for SRU with
Zach Gose placing second with a toss of 15.81 meters and
Logan Parker finishing third with a mark of 14.76 meters. Gose also picked up his own victory with a win in the weight throw (17.52 meters) to give SRU a sweep of the throwing events.
Joshua Rohland was third with a toss of 15.26 meters and
Andrew Demko was fourth at 15.04 meters as SRU hit six PSAC marks in the throws.
Â
Logan Anderson picked up a win the long jump with a leap of 6.86 meters and
Ian James took second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.93 meters to lead the horizontal jumps.
Logan Turton and
Grady Cobb both met the PSAC standard in the high jump with Turton placing fifth with a clearance of 1.95 meters and Cobb taking sixth at 1.90 meters.
Â
The PSAC marks in the field were capped by
Scott Finch, who placed fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.52 meters. That effort marked the first time this winter Finch has hit the PSAC standard and locked up his spot at the conference meet next week.
Â
SRU's lone win on the track came in the 60-meter dash with
Kanye Thompson leading a 1-2-3 sweep for The Rock in 6.89 seconds.
AJ Virata was second in 6.99 seconds and
Benny Whitaker was third in 7.00 seconds.
Matthew Crow rounded out the PSAC marks on the track with a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.22 seconds.
