SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will send distance runners Anna Igims and Ruthie Hughes to Grand Valley State Friday evening to compete in the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Michigan.

The distance running duo will be the lone representatives from The Rock track & field teams headed to Michigan. The rest of the men's and women's team will head to the SPIRE Indoor Games Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
 
Igims and Hughes are headed to Grand Valley to compete in a stellar field in the 5,000-meter run with the goal of clocking a fast time. The GVSU Big Meet is one of the top Division II meets in the country and includes two full days of separate meets. The Friday competition features six different sections of the women's 5K with Hughes set to compete in section two and Igims set to race in the fastest heat, section one.
 
Hughes will be the first to compete when she races Friday night at 6:30 p.m. Igims will close out the evening when she competes at 7:30 p.m.
 
The duo enter the weekend already owning the No. 1 spot in the PSAC in all three distance races with Igims ranked first in the PSAC in the mile (4:55.10) and the 3,000-meter run (9:52.72) and Hughes ranked first in the PSAC in the 5,000-meter run (17:51.30). Hughes also ranks No. 2 in the PSAC behind Igims in the mile (5:08.45) and No. 3 in the PSAC in the 3,000m (10:06.86).
