No. 25 Rock hosts Griffins with division title within reach

On the heels of a 2-2 draw versus No. 9 Gannon, the No. 25 Slippery Rock women’s soccer team can clinch the PSAC West title with a win 3 p.m. Wednesday against Seton Hill at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – On the heels of a 2-2 draw versus No. 9 Gannon University, the No. 25 Slippery Rock University women's soccer team can clinch the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division title with a win 3 p.m. Wednesday against Seton Hill University at James Egli Field.
 
Slippery Rock enters the match with a 11-3-1 record overall with a 11-1-1 mark in the PSAC West, while Seton Hill owns a 3-11-2 overall record and a 1-10-2 record in the PSAC West.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock and Seton first played in 1994 and 1995, resulting in two Seton Hill victories, then the matchup took a 13-year hiatus. Since the resumption of the series in 2008, Slippery Rock has won 17 of the 20 games played. The Rock owns a 17-3-2 all-time record and 9-0-2 record at home against the Griffins.
 
THE FIRST TIME AROUND
Slippery Rock took down Seton Hill, 3-0, in their first meeting this season at Dick's Sporting Goods Field. Marissa Salisbury scored the first two goals of the game, while Lindsey Price added an insurance marker late in the second half. Abby Paterline, Sophia Palermo and Briona Rice each picked up one assist. Leah Allman made three saves in a shutout effort.

LAST TIME OUT
A second-half surge led by Salisbury and Bailey McGee pushed Slippery Rock to a 2-2 draw Nov. 1 against Gannon at James Egli Field.
  
Salisbury and McGee scored one goal each, while Salisbury and Palermo grabbed one assist apiece on the day.
 
McGee led The Rock with three shots, while Salisbury (2) was the only other Rock player with multiple shots. Libby Zacharyasz and Libby Earley rounded out the SRU shot takers with one each.
 
Allman made eight saves in the draw. 

IN THE TOP 25
Slippery Rock entered the national poll at No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll this week. The last time The Rock was ranked was during the 2021 season when SRU held the 23rd spot in the nation. The full United Soccer Coaches National Poll can be seen HERE.
 
PSAC WEST TITLE UP FOR GRABS
The match against Seton Hill marks the final match for Slippery Rock in the regular season. Slippery Rock sits atop the Western Division with 34 points, two points ahead of Gannon.

Slippery Rock can claim the PSAC West title Wednesday with a win over Seton Hill, as The Rock would stay at least two points clear of the Gannon. Slippery Rock would also be crowned division champions with a Gannon loss or tie to Clarion. The last time Slippery Rock won the PSAC West was in 2019, when it finished nine points ahead of Edinboro for the division title. Also, 2019 is last time Slippery Rock won the PSAC Tournament.
  
NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
On Oct. 29, Slippery Rock was announced as one of 10 teams in the first NCAA regional ranking. The NCAA's regional rankings are the only official ranking used by the Division II Women's Soccer Committee's to determine which teams from each of the eight regions will qualify for the 56-team NCAA Division II playoffs. The regional rankings will be released every Wednesday through the final three weeks of the season until final selections are revealed Nov. 17. This week's rankings will be the first version in rank order.

Slippery Rock is looking to make its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2019.

PSAC TOURNAMENT BOUND
Slippery Rock clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament with its 3-1 win over on Oct. 18. This is the 15th season in a row that Slippery has made the PSAC Tournament. SRU won two PSAC Championships in that span in 2012 and 2019.

All 10 spots have been clinched in this year's PSAC Tournament. 

SEEDING SHUFFLE
With one game remaining in the regular season, there are still seven of the 10 total seeds to be decided for the PSAC Tournament. Slippery Rock, Gannon, IUP, Kutztown, Shepherd, Millersville and Bloomsburg can have their seeding changed on Wednesday, while West Chester, Edinboro and Clarion have already had their seeds decided.

In the Western Division, Edinboro will be the No. 4 seed and Clarion has earned the No. 5 seed, while in the Eastern Division, West Chester has claimed the No. 1 seed.

HOME GAME SECURED
While its sed is still to be decided, Slippery Rock has sexcured a home game in the quarterfinal round of the PSAC Tourmament. 

APPROACHING THE TOP
With a win or tie against the Griffins, The Rock would be on a nine-game unbeaten streak, which would be tied for the fifth longest unbeaten streak in program history. 

The program record for an unbeaten streak happened during the end of the 2010 and beginning of the 2011 season, when SRU went on a 16-game unbeaten run. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, Slippery Rock tied No. 8 California (Pa.) and lost in a penalty kick shootout, but the game officially went down as a draw.  
 
SHUTTING THE DOOR
Slippery Rock's stellar defense has been on display during PSAC West action in 2025, as The Rock have eight shutouts in their last 12 games, while only surrendering seven goals in that span. The Rock are currently surrendering just 0.87 goals per game, if that mark stays it will be the 11th fewest goals given up per game in program history.

ALLMAN EARNS SECOND CONSECUTIVE PSAC WEEKLY AWARD
Allman took home the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week award for the second consecutive time this past week for her performance against Clarion and Gannon. Allman totaled eight saves on a .800 save percentage, while having a 1.00 GAA against the Golden Eagles and the Golden Knights. The junior from Olmsted Township, Ohio earned her a shutout against Clarion and helped SRU to a 2-2 draw against Gannon. Allman has been The Rock's starter for all 15 games so far this season. The goalkeeper has a 11-3-1 record with a .803 save percentage, while allowing 0.91 goals per game. Allman has recorded seven total shutouts so far this season.
 
LEADING THE ROCK
Salisbury leads The Rock with eight goals and 20 points. 14 other Rock players have at least a point so far this season.

Paterline has secured five goals, while Zacharyasz and Price have recorded three markers each in 2025, trailing Salisbury by three and five respectively.

Palermo paces Slippery Rock with seven assists. Salisbury trails Palermo with four assists. Paterline, (3), McGee (2) and Lilia Battalini (2) are the other two Rock players with multiple assists. Rice, Lillian SnyderIrene DolenoAllie Burns and Eden Williams all have one helper.

Salisbury leads the charge in shots with 40. Paterline follows the senior with 31 shots. Palermo trails the two forwards with 25 shots.

Allman leads SRU in minutes with 1,290. Lillian Snyder, a crucial part to SRU's backline, and Zacharyasz trail the goalkeeper with 1,279 and 1,209 minutes respectively.
 
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Zacharyasz has been a starter since she arrived at Slippery Rock. In her career, Zacharyasz has started 70 out of the 71 games she has played, including 65 in a row, which has her ranked fifth place in Slippery Rock history for consecutive games started. With a start against Seton Hill, Zacharyasz will move one game behind Sydney Patrick (2020-24) for fourth place on the list.

DIVISION II LEADERS
Palermo ranks towards the top of the nation's top passers in multiple categories. She sits 17th in total assists with seven and 23rd with 0.47 assists per game.

Paterline is among the nation's most accurate shot takers as the freshman ranks 19th in Division II in shot accuracy with a mark of .645.
 
PSAC LEADERS
During Slippery Rock's impressive 2025 season so far, the team has multiple players rank inside the top 10 PSAC categories.

Salisbury is one of the top goal scorers in the PSAC with eight goals, which has her ranked eighth in the conference. Salisbury also ranks ninth in the PSAC with 0.53 goals per game.

Palermo is among the top players in the PSAC in assists. Palermo ranks fourth in the conference in total assists with seven and fifth in assists per game with 0.47. Zacharyasz ranks sixth in the PSAC with two game-winning goals. Palermo and Paterline follow Zacharyasz at 10th in the conference with two game-winners each.

During her solid season in goal, Allman has boasted the second most shutouts in the PSAC with six clean sheets. Also, Allman has the sixth best GAA in the PSAC with .91 and the eighth best save percentage in the conference with a .803 mark.

Slippery Rock head coach Noreen Herlihy currently sits at 316 wins, which has her ranked 23rd nationally in Division II in career wins and 13th among active coaches.

SETON HILL SCOUTING REPORT
The Griffins have struggled throughout the 2025 season. Seton Hill hold a 3-11-2 record overall with a 1-10-2 mark in the PSAC West. On a bright spot, the Griffins are coming into this matchup following a 2-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown, for their first conference win and their third shutout of the season. 

Senior midfielder Katie Pazdziorko leads Seton Hill with seven points and three goals. Lauren Mealie and Jessica Molitoris follow Pazdziorko with two goals each, while seven other Seton Hill players have scored on goal this season.

Binta Sow paces the Griffins with three assists, while Leah Kessler follows Sow with two assists. Five other Griffins have one assist this season.

Jordan Spozarski has played every single minute in goal for Seton Hill this season. Spozarksi has a 2.38 GAA and a .62 save percentage. Earlier this season against The Rock, Spozarski made seven saves in a 3-0 loss for the Griffins.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Slippery Rock's next contest will be in the quarterfinal round of the PSAC Tournament 1 p.m. Nov. 11 at James Egli Field. The Rock will host a yet to be determined Eastern Division team.
