LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's basketball forward
Kayley Joseph-Bernard was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference office announced Monday.
Joseph-Bernard, a forward from Milton, Ontario, earns Slippery Rock its first PSACÂ West weekly award this year. Joseph-Bernard is the 21
st different women's basketball player to win a PSAC West weekly award and seventh different member to win PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week honors since 2004.
Joseph-Bernard led Slippery Rock to a 1-1 week overall, averaging 7.0 points, 10 rebounds, 3.0Â assists, 4.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game, while averaging 35 minutes per contest.
Joseph-Bernard's nine-block week moves her into 18th place on The Rock's career blocks list with 41.
In Slippery Rock's 83-78 victory over Lake Erie College, the senior went for eight points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals in 30 minutes of playing time.
During The Rock's 89-75 loss to Glenville State University, the forward put in a six-point, 13-rebound, four-assist, seven-block, one-steal performance while playing all 40 minutes. The seven blocks put Joseph-Bernard third on SRU's all-time single game blocks list. Diane Walker owns the top two spots on the blocks list with 12 and 10 rejections respectively in 1984-85.
Slippery Rock sits with a 2-2 overall record as it finishes its non-conference slate with a 2:30 p.m. Wednesday matchup at Tiffin University and a tilt 2 p.m. Sunday against Walsh University at Morrow Field House.
