The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team hosts Glenville State in its 2025-26 home opener, coming in with a 2-1 record after splitting the Atlantic Region Challenge hosted by Gannon University, before taking down Lake Erie.

Slippery Rock and Glenville State met for the first time ever last season when the Pioneers took down The Rock 89-75 in the Atlantic Region Challenge hosted by Gannon. Slippery Rock will look for its first victory over Glenville State this time around.

LAST TIME OUT
The Slippery Rock women's basketball team claimed its second-straight wire-to-wire victory in a fast-paced battle Wednesday at Lake Erie College, 83-78.
 
SRU was led by Sophia Hook as she recorded the first double-double of the season for The Rock with a 23-point, 10-rebound performance on 9-of-16 shooting from the field overall and 5-for-12 from the 3-point line.
 
Karianna Woods and Alyssa Gillin both registered 16 points. Woods added five assists, four steals and three rebounds, while Gillin grabbed five rebounds, blocked one shot and forced one steal while shooting 7-of-10 from the field overall.
 
Iyanna Wade rounded out SRU's double-digit scorers with 12 points. The freshman also grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists.
 
Kayley Joseph-Bernard put together a well-wounded effort with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.

HOME-OPENER DETAILS
Slippery Rock is 31-20 all-time in home-openers in the modern era (since 1972-73).
 
The Rock are looking for its first home-opening win under head coach Ryenn Micaletti.

Slippery Rock's last home-opening win came during the 2022-23 season when it edged out Malone University by two points, 60-58.
 
THE ROCK vs. THE MEC
Since the Mountain East Conference was formed in 2013, Slippery Rock has a 10-5 record against teams from the MEC.
 
STARTING OFF HOT
A win over Glenville State on Saturday would give Slippery Rock its fifth 3-1 start in the last 17 years. The other four times Slippery Rock has achieved a 3-1 start since 2015 were the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons
 
Since 2003, Slippery Rock is 36-52 during its first four games of the season.
 
EFFICIENT FROM THE FIELD
In their win over the Storm, The Rock shot 54.1 percent from the field overall. This was the highest shooting percentage for Slippery Rock in the teams last 15 games when it shot 53.3 percent in a 62-59 loss at California.

SRU had Sophia Hook (9-of-16), Alyssa Gillin (7-of-10), Karianna Woods (6-of-9) and Mairan Haggerty (1-of-2) shoot at least 50 percent from the field to boost The Rock's field goal percentage.
 
COMMANDING THE PAINT
So far, the trend to deciding the outcome for The Rock has been controlling the points in the paint scoring as Slippery Rock is 2-0 this season when winning the battle inside. Overall, SRU has a +2 margin in points in the paint, while averaging 35.3 points per game inside.
 
Slippery Rock outdueled Lake Erie 48-34 and Davis & Elkins 36-30 in the paint.
 
Charleston was able to beat Slippery Rock inside 40-22.

Last year, Slippery Rock went 3-1 when outscoring its opponents in the paint.
 
DISHING THE ROCK
Just less than two weeks into the season, Slippery Rock sits seventh in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with 14 assists per game.
 
SRU has three players averaging at least 2.5 assists per game. Kayley Joseph-Bernard leads The Rock with 4.3 helpers per game, while Iyanna Wade and Karianna Woods pace the guards with 3.0 and 2.7 assists per game respectively.

Slippery Rock averages 2.3 more assists per game than its opponents.
 
CAUSING HAVOC ON D
Slippery Rock has put pressure on opposing teams with is defense so far this season. The Rock sits ninth in the PSAC in turnovers forced with 17.33 takeaways per game.
 
Karianna Woods leads the charge for SRU's defense as the transfer from Bethune-Cookman is averaging 2.0 steals per game. Sophia Hook (1.7), Kayley-Joseph-Bernard (1.3) and Alyssa Gillin (1.3) help boost The The Rock's defense with more than one steal per game.

On the other side of the ball, Slippery Rock has also done a proficient job at protexcting the ball, only committing 16 turnovers per game. The Rock's turnover rate sits them with the sixth fewest turnovers per game in the conference.
 
HOOK, LINE, AND SINKING THE 3
Sophia Hook has been of fire from beyond the arc to start the 2025-26 campaign. One of the premier shooters in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, Hook sits first in made 3-pointers per game (3.33), fourth in 3-point percentage (45.5%) and fourth in total made 3-pointers (10). Not only is Hook shooting at a high percentage, she is achieving that while shooting at a high volume as the guard takes 7.3 3-pointers per contest.
 
CAREER NIGHT ALL AROUND
Wednesday night's win in Lake Erie featured three Rock players setting their career highs in a SRU uniform. Sophia Hook (23 points) led the way, followed by Alyssa Gillin and Karianna Woods with 16 points apiece.
 
Gillin has the most games played of these three in a Rock uniform with 50, while Hook has suited up for SRU 25 times and Woods, the Bethune-Cookman transfer, has just started her Rock career with three games played.

During her 23-point performance, Hook also matched her career-high with five made 3-pointer's.

Defensively, Mairan Haggerty was able to match her career-high times in blocks with one, which she has now achieved 11 times. Also, Hook matched her career-high in steals with three, which she set in last year's tilt with Lake Erie.
 
LEANING ON THE STARTERS
Slippery Rock is averaging 67.3 points per contest through three games into the season. SRU is heavily relying on its starters for points as 86.6 percent of The Rock's scoring production has come from the first five.

Sophia Hook (16.3), Iyanna Wade (13.3), Alyssa Gillin (12.3), Karianna Woods (8.7) and Kayley Joseph-Bernard (7.7) combine for 58.3 of Slippery Rock's 67.3 points per game.

Mairan Haggerty is SRU's top scorer off the bench with 5.0 points per game.

A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING
While not the highest scoring player on the court, Kayley Joseph-Bernard always finds multiple ways to impact the game. Joseph-Bernard has averaged 7.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. 

Joseph-Bernard is the only Division II athlete to average at least 7.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game.
 
GROUP EFFORT ON THE GLASS
The Rock have had a group effort when rebounding the basketball this season. Slippery Rock has five players averaging multiple rebounds this season. Kayley Joseph-Bernard (8.3), Sophia Hook (8.3), Iyanna Wade (5.0), Alyssa Gillin (3.7) and Mairan Haggerty (2.3) are averaging multiple boards.

BLOCK PARTY
Over the first three games of the 2025-26 season, Kayley Joseph-Bernard has six blocks, moving her into 20th place on SRU's all-time blocks list with 34 rejections. Joseph-Bernard sits one block behind Sorriyah Ranger (2014-16) for 19th place on the list.
 
Alyssa Gillin also moved into the top 25 on the block's list with her 26th career rejection. Gillin tied Danielle Smith (2010-2012) for 25th on the list.

SCOUTING GLENVILLE STATE
Glenville State kicked off its 2025-26 season with two wins over PSAC East opponents in Kutztown and West Chester. The Pioneers are scoring 67.5 points per game and hold a total point margin of +7. Glenville State is led by Jayda Allie and Nwando Okigbo scoring 12.5 ppg each. On the boards, Okigbo paces the Pioneers with 12.5 of its 35.0 rpg. On the defensive end, the Pioneers force 24 turnovers per game.

LOOKING AHEAD
Slippery Rock will once against hit the road for a matchup against the Great Midwest Athletic Conference's Tiffin University 2:30 p.m. Nov. 26. Last year, SRU lost a 78-75 overtime thriller to the Dragons at Morrow Field House.
