PSAC Tournament Preview: No. 25 Rock vs. Millersville

The No. 25 Slippery Rock women’s soccer team hosts Millersville in a PSAC Tournament quarterfinal tilt for its first home postseason game since 2019 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The No. 25 Slippery Rock University women's soccer teams host Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal tilt for its first home postseason game since 2019 1 p.m. Tuesday at James Egli Field.
 
LOCATION UPDATE (9:20 a.m.)
Today's PSAC Tournament quarterfinal round game between Slippery Rock and Millersville will now be played at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Start time is still set for 1 p.m.

Fans are reminded that there are NO PETS allowed at James Egli Field or in any SRU Athletics facilities. Please do not bring dogs or any other pets to the game. Unless they are a registered service animal, you will be asked to remove your pet from the facility.

TICKETS
Fans can purchase tickets on the PSAC Tournament Central website page or at this LINK provided by the PSAC. All entry at James Egli Field will require tickets with all transactions being cashless. Adult ticket prices are $12, while tickets for students in 12th grade or younger are $7. Free admission for students from member institutions with valid I.D. PSAC Passes will be honored. It is advised to purchase tickets prior to arriving, however, tickets will be available for purchase on site.

SERIES HISTORY
Slippery Rock and Millersville first played in 1994, resulting in a 2-1 Rock victory. SRU won the first seven matchups with Millersville. The two programs have played 24 times over the last 31 years. Slippery Rock owns a 19-5-0 record overall and a 11-2-0 mark at home against the Marauders. The last time The Rock and Millersville met was in the 2018 season, Slippery Rock took down No. 14 Millersville, 2-1. Brooke Testa (2015-18) and Skye Kramer (2015-18) scored, while Kylie Downs (2015-18) made 11 saves in the win.
 
TOP ACTIVE PLAYERS AGAINST MILLERSVILLE
No player on either team has played in the Slippery Rock versus Millersville series.

PSAC TOURNAMENT SETUP
• The top five teams in the Western Division and Eastern Division standings at the end of the regular season qualified for the PSAC Tournament with the top three seeds in each division receiving first-round byes.
 
• First Round: Both No. 5 seeds prevailed as Clarion defeated Edinboro, 2-1, while Millersville took down Bloomsburg University, 2-1. 
 
• Quarterfinals: On Tuesday, the quarterfinal round will be contested with Slippery Rock taking on Millersville and No. 15 West Chester University facing Clarion, as the winners of the first round crossover to play the opposite division's No. 1 seed. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds from each division will also crossover in the quarterfinals.
 
• Semifinals: Advancing teams will face the remaining team from its part of the bracket in the semifinal round, which will be held Friday.
 
• Finals: The 2025 PSAC Tournament championship game will be held Sunday. The PSAC Torunament champions earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
 
• The highest remaining seed from the Eastern Division following Tuesday's matches will play host to the semifinal and final round. If there are no Eastern Division teams remaining, then Slippery Rock will host the final two rounds.

WHO'S IN
• PSAC West: Slippery Rock is seeded first followed by No. 2 Gannon University, No. 3 Indiana University (Pa.), No. 4 Edinboro and No. 5 Clarion.
 
• PSAC East: West Chester locked up the top seed in the Eastern Division followed by No. 2 Kutztown University, No. 3 Shepherd University, No. 4 Bloomsburg and No. 5 Millersville.
 
HOW THEY GOT HERE
Slippery Rock enters the PSAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed out of the PSAC West after an impressive 12-1-1 conference record in the regular season. SRU comes into the conference tournament on a hot streak, as The Rock are unbeaten in their last nine games, including eight wins in those matches. Slippery Rock is 6-0-1 at home this season.
 
Millersville earned the No. 5 seed from the PSAC East with a 6-5-3 conference record. The Marauders finished the regular season with a 7-6-3 record overall. Millersville has won four of its last five games, including a 2-1 comeback victory at Bloomsburg in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. Millersville is 4-3-1 on the road this season.
 
PSAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Slippery Rock will be making its 15th straight PSAC Tournament appearance. SRU has won four PSAC championships all-time with league titles coming in 2003, 2005, 2012 and 2019.
 
SRU is coming off a PSAC Tournament semifinals appearance just a year ago, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals its three previous chances.
 
The Rock and the Marauders have met in the PSAC Tournament on only one previous occasion. In 2003, Slippery Rock downed Millersville, 5-2.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock clinched its first PSAC West title since 2019, with a 3-1 win Nov. 5 against Seton Hill University at James Egli Field.
    
Abby PaterlineLibby Zacharyasz and Lindsey Price scored one goal each for SRU, while Paterline, Marissa SalisburySophia Palermo and Libby Earley all picked up one assist in the win.
 
Leah Allman picked up the win in goal for The Rock.
  
Slippery Rock finished the match with a 22-3 advantage in shots and a 11-1 edge in shots on goal.
 
PSAC WEST CHAMPS
This year's PSAC West title was Slippery Rock's fifth regular season championship in program history, and its first since 2019. Slippery Rock (37) finished the regular season two points clear of No. 9 Gannon (35).
 
PSAC TOURNAMENT STREAK
Slippery Rock has made the PSAC Tournament an impressive 15 years in a row. The 15-year run is the second longest active PSAC Tournament streak behind just West Chester, who has made the last 22 PSAC Tournaments.
 
IN THE TOP 25
Slippery Rock entered the national poll at No. 25 in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll last week. The last time The Rock was ranked was during the 2021 season when SRU held the 23rd spot in the nation. The full United Soccer Coaches National Poll can be seen HERE.
 
NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
On Nov. 5, Slippery Rock was ranked third of nine teams in the second NCAA regional ranking. The NCAA's regional rankings are the only official ranking used by the Division II Women's Soccer Committee's to determine which teams from each of the eight regions will qualify for the 56-team NCAA Division II playoffs. The regional rankings will be released one more time Nov. 12 before final selections are revealed Nov. 17.

Slippery Rock is looking to make its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2019.
 
APPROACHING THE TOP
With a win or tie against the Marauders, The Rock would be on a 10-game unbeaten streak, which would be the fifth longest unbeaten streak in program history. 
 
If the game would end in a tie after 90 minutes, the teams would play two 10-minute golden goal overtimes, before a penalty kick shootout would decide the winner.

The program record for an unbeaten streak happened during the end of the 2010 and beginning of the 2011 season, when SRU went on a 16-game unbeaten run. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, Slippery Rock tied No. 8 California (Pa.) and lost in a penalty kick shootout, but the game officially went down as a draw.  
 
SHUTTING THE DOOR
Slippery Rock's stellar defense has been on display during PSAC West action in 2025, as The Rock have eight shutouts in their last 13 games, while only surrendering eight goals in that span. The Rock are currently surrendering just 0.88 goals per game, if that mark stays it will be the 11th fewest goals given up per game in program history.
 
LEADING THE ROCK
Salisbury leads The Rock with eight goals and 21 points. 14 other Rock players have at least a point so far this season.

Paterline has secured six goals, while Zacharyasz and Price have recorded four markers each in 2025, trailing Salisbury by two and four respectively.

Palermo paces Slippery Rock with eight assists. Salisbury trails Palermo with five assists. Paterline, (4), Bailey McGee (2) and Lilia Battalini (2) are the other two Rock players with multiple assists. Earley, Briona RiceLillian SnyderIrene DolenoAllie Burns and Eden Williams all have one helper.

Salisbury leads the charge in shots with 41. Paterline follows the senior with 36 shots. Palermo trails the two forwards with 27 shots.

Allman leads SRU in minutes with 1,380. Snyder, a crucial part to SRU's backline, and Zacharyasz trail the goalkeeper with 1,369 and 1,289 minutes respectively.
 
ALLMAN IN GOAL
Allman has been The Rock's starter for all 16 games so far this season. The junior from Olmsted Township, Ohio has a 12-3-1 record with a .791 save percentage, while allowing 0.91 goals per game. Allman has recorded seven total shutouts so far this season.
 
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
Zacharyasz has been a starter since she arrived at Slippery Rock. In her career, Zacharyasz has started 71 out of the 72 games she has played, including 66 in a row, which has her ranked fifth place in Slippery Rock history for consecutive games started. With a start against Millersvile, Zacharyasz will move into a tie with Sydney Patrick (2020-24) for fourth place on the list.

DIVISION II LEADERS
Palermo ranks towards the top of the nation's top passers in multiple categories. She sits 17th in total assists with eight and 18th with 0.50 assists per game.

Paterline is among the nation's most accurate shot takers as the freshman ranks 11th in Division II in shot accuracy with a mark of .667.
 
PSAC LEADERS
During Slippery Rock's impressive 2025 season so far, the team has multiple players rank inside the top 10 PSAC categories.

Salisbury is one of the top goal scorers in the PSAC with eight goals, which has her ranked eighth in the conference.

Palermo is among the top players in the PSAC in assists. Palermo ranks third in the conference in total assists with eight and third in assists per game with 0.50.
 
Zacharyasz ranks third in the PSAC with four game-winning goals.

During her solid season in goal, Allman has boasted the second most shutouts in the PSAC with six clean sheets. Also, Allman has the sixth best GAA in the PSAC with .91 and the eighth best save percentage in the conference with a .791 mark.

Slippery Rock head coach Noreen Herlihy currently sits at 317 wins, which has her ranked 23rd nationally in Division II in career wins and 13th among active coaches.

MILLERSVILLE SCOUTING REPORT
The Marauders enter the quarterfinal round of the PSAC Tournament with an already improved record from a season ago. Millersville owns a 8-6-3 record overall, a two-win improvement from 2024, and put up a 6-5-3 record in the PSAC East regular season.
 
Junior forward Aubrey Strohecker leads Millersville in all offensive categories with 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. Lia Francis (5) and Isabel Coy (4) round out the top three goal scorers for Millersville. The Marauders have 10 players that have scored at least one goal this season.
 
Sara Edwards (3) and four others with two assists follow Strohecker as players with multiple helpers. 11 total players have at least one assist for Millersville this campaign.
 
Sabrina Zimmerman has started the majority of Millersville's games in goal with a 5-4-2 record. Zimmerman owns a 1.09 GAA and a .800 save percentage.
 
In Millersville's PSAC Tournament first round matchup against Bloomsburg, Strohecker registered one goal and one assist, while Caroline Wood put home the game-winner for the Marauders. In goal, Zimmerman made two saves in the win.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
If Slippery Rock defeats Millersville Tuesday, it will play either IUP or Kutztown Friday in the PSAC Tournament semifinals. If The Rock were to lse to the Marauders, it would be likely that SRU's season would not be finshed, as Slippery Rock has a good chance at earning an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.
