LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's soccer defender
Sydney Smith was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference office announced on Monday.
Smith, a defender from Evans City, Pennsylvania, earns Slippery Rock its first PSAC weekly award this year. Smith is the 24
th different SRU women's soccer player to win a PSAC weekly award and fifth different member to win PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week since 2004.
Smith led Slippery Rock to a 1-0 week, totaling one point on one assist, while helping hold Edinboro to just one goal.
Slippery Rock fell behind Edinboro early in the first half, but responded with two goals before halftime with an insurance marker in the second half to defeat the Fighting Scots, 3-1.

nd minute.
Smith ranks fourth in minutes for SRU with 815 total minutes on the pitch, while averaging 74.1 minutes per game.
Slippery Rock sits in second place in the PSAC West with an 8-1-0 conference record and an 8-3-0 record overall. The Rock will be back in action 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against Indiana University (Pa.) at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
