SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team won the Doug Watts Open Saturday at Edinboro to kick off the 2024 season.

The Rock posted a team score of 35 points to edge hosting Edinboro for the team title. The Fighting Scots took second with 53 points with Daemen placing third with 81 points. D'Youville was fourth with 101 points, followed by Lake Erie with 125 points and Seton Hill with 136 points. Â

Anna Igims ran away with the individual title after winning the 5,000-meter race in 17:57, crossing the line 22 seconds ahead of teammate
Ruthie Hughes in second place at 18:19. Hughes finished 22 seconds ahead of the third place runner from Lake Erie as the SRU 1-2 duo ran away from the field.

Jennifer Cichra was the third scorer for SRU in sixth place in 18:59. Freshman
Carissa Flynn was 10th in her collegiate debut in 19:25 and
Maddie Grillo rounded out the scorers in 16th place in 19:57.

Lexie Wyant was the sixth finisher in 23rd place in 20:31 and
Hannah Burgoon rounded out the top seven in 28th place in 21:08.

Slippery Rock will take next week off before returning to action Sept. 21 at the YSU Alumni Invite hosted by Youngstown State.
