SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team picked up five points Friday to sit third in the team standings after the first of three days of competition at the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships.

The highlight of the opening day for SRU came from
Zach Gose, who took fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.92 meters to pick up four points.
Joshua Gose just missed out on a scoring spot in ninth with a throw of 47.80 meters.

Troy Hart capped the points for SRU on the opening day with an eighth place finish in the 10,000-meter run, which finished just before 10 p.m. Hart clocked a time of 31:48.46, placing one spot ahead of
Ethan Brentham in ninth in 31:51.75.
In addition to the two event finals Friday, the first five events of the decathlon were contested. Slippery Rock will enter day two of the multi-event with three men in the top six.
Zack Duda is third with 3,557 points, followed by
Ethan Folmer in fifth with 3,352 points and
Gavin Thomas in sixth with 3,275 points.

The final five events of the decathlon will take place Saturday, along with half of the field event finals, the 3,000-meter steeplechase final and trials in all events from 800 meters down.

Competition is scheduled to begin Saturday at 10 a.m. in the decathlon, noon in the field and 1:05 p.m. on the track.
