Baldwin Wallace Dillard Twilight Results
BEREA, Ohio –
Anna Igims and the men's 4x100-meter relay team broke school records to lead the Slippery Rock University track & field teams Friday at the Dillard Twilight Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
Â
The Rock sent a small group of athletes to Allegheny College Thursday and Baldwin Wallace Friday with hopes of improving on their NCAA provisional marks during the final week before the NCAA selects the participants for the National Championships.
Â
Igims was successful in that operation, moving herself up from the national bubble after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night with a time of 10:24.93. That time breaks her own former record of 10:34.38 by nearly 10 seconds and more importantly moves her up from No. 17 to No. 11 on the Division II national list, putting her in a much better position to be accepted to compete in her second straight outdoor national meet.
Â
The steeplechase record wasn't the only record that fell Friday evening as The Rock men's 4x100-meter relay of
Kanye Thompson,
AJ Virata,
Matthew Crow and
Jacob Thompson also broke their own program record. They took second in a blazing race with a time of 40.50 seconds, breaking the record of 40.61 seconds that they set just last week at the PSAC Championships. That time moves them up the national list, but not far enough break into a qualifying spot for nationals. Crow also took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.04 seconds and Virata took sixth in the 200-meter dash in 21.58 seconds as the only two individual entries for the SRU men at Baldwin Wallace.
Â
Slippery Rock's athletes that competed at Allegheny Thursday were forced to deal with difficult weather conditions that made it next to impossible to improve on season-bests.
Sarah Corrie led the way for that group with a runner-up finish in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 14.40 meters, just shy of her season-best of 14.76 meters, which currently sits No. 21 on the national list.
Â
Full SRU results from both meets can be found below.
Â
The Rock will now wait until Tuesday for the NCAA to announce the selections for the National Championships. Selected athletes will compete at Emporia State University May 23-25 in Kansas.
