ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team recorded six NCAA provisional marks and 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks at the Ashland Alumni Open that wrapped up Saturday evening from Ashland University.

The Rock got career-best efforts from Kanye Thompson in the 100-meter dash, Matthew Crow in the 110-meter hurdles and Drew Layton in the pole vault, along with season-bests from the 4x100-meter relay and Bryan Dworek in the long jump to headline a stellar two days of competition.

Thompson led the way on the track with a win in the 100-meter dash after clocking a career-best and NCAA provisional time of 10.32 seconds, which vaults him all the way up to No. 14 on the NCAA Division II list this spring. He also ran the lead leg of the 4x100-meter relay, where he joined with AJ Virata, Crow and Jacob Thompson to take third in a season-best and NCAA provisional time of 40.80 seconds, which was just shy of the SRU record of 40.78 seconds.

Crow clocked a career-best of 14.47 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to place third in the event and Virata took second in the 200-meter dash in an NCA provisional time of 21.17 seconds, just off his season-best of 21.13 seconds. Kyle Rauchut also hit the PSAC mark in the 200m in 13th place in 22.09 seconds. The top efforts on the track were capped by Cade Adams and Darien Malawi hitting PSAC marks in the 400-meter hurdles with Adams finishing fifth in 55.55 seconds and Malawi finishing eighth in 56.94 seconds.

Layton led the way in the field with a career-best effort and NCAA provisional mark of 5.07 meters in the pole vault, which rockets him all the way up to No. 10 on the Division II leaderboard this spring. Dan Hyatt was eighth at 4.92 meters to also top the NCAA provisional standard. Bradon Schneider took 11th at 4.77 meters and Andy Huynh also met the PSAC mark with a 17th place showing and a height of 4.47 meters.

Dworek unleashed a season-best effort in the long jump, topping 7.00 meters for the first time this spring to take fourth with a leap of 7.25 meters.

Joshua Gose met the NCAA standard in the shot put to take seventh in the invite section with a throw of 16.71 meters. Seaton Wozniak was ninth at 15.81 meters. Zach Gose took 10th in the unseeded section with a throw of 14.21 meters and was fourth in the discus with a throw of 48.13 meters. The shot put was headlined by one of the best throwers in the world as two-time Olympic silver medalist Joe Kovacs won the event in a tune-up before this summer's Olympic Trials.

The Rock's PSAC marks were rounded out by Joshua Rohland and Chad Hepler in the hammer with Rohland taking 16th with a toss of 45.84 meters and Hepler finishing 18th at 45.29 meters.
