CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team recorded 16 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and two NCAA provisional marks at the Charlotte 49er Classic that was hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from Thursday through Saturday.

The highlight of the outdoor season opener came from pole vaulter
Dan Hyatt and javelin thrower
Josh Kingerski, who each recorded an NCAA provisional mark in their respective events. Hyatt took second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.90 meters and Kingerski was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 58.92 meters.
Drew Layton also hit the PSAC standard in the pole vault in ninth place at 4.60 meters to give SRU a pair of top-10 finishes in the event.

Kanye Thompson and
AJ Virata led the way in the short sprints with a trio of individual top-10 showings. Thompson was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 10.73 seconds, with Virata taking 10th in 10.78 seconds. Virata then came back and took eighth in the 200-meter dash in 21.83 seconds. Those two also teamed with
Matthew Crow and
Jeremy Uher to take third in the 4x100-meter relay in 41.25 seconds, marking the highest finish for SRU on the track over the three days.

Crow was also sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.06 seconds, while
Cade Adams took 10th in the 400-meter hurdles in a PSAC qualifying time of 57.10 seconds to round out the top efforts in the sprints and hurdles.

SRU picked up three PSAC marks and three top-10 finishes in the distance events.
Ethan Brentham was fifth in the 10,000-meter run in 31:18.28 with
Troy Hart following in 31:48.98.
Tucker Davis just missed the PSAC standard by an agonizing one one-hundredth of a second, running 33:30.01 when the qualifying standard is 33:30.00.
John Juszynski led the way in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in sixth place in 9:26.23 and
Devon Navaroli returned to action after missing time during the indoor season to place ninth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:59.69.

Zack Duda and
Ethan Folmer both recorded top-10 finishes in the decathlon with Duda placing third overall with 5,772 points and Folmer finishing seven with 4,871 points. Duda also hit the PSAC standard in the high jump with a clearance of 1.88 meters.

The rest of the PSAC marks on the opening weekend came in the throws.
Joshua Gose took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 16.46 meters with
Seaton Wozniak placing seventh with a mark of 15.92 meters. Wozniak then took 16th in the discus with a throw of 43.88 meters.
Zach Gose was 14th in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.17 meters and
Earnie Zilka rounded out the PSAC marks with a 23rd place finish in the hammer with a throw of 44.44 meters.
