CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team recorded 16 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and two NCAA provisional marks at the Charlotte 49er Classic that was hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from Thursday through Saturday.

The highlight of the outdoor season opener came from pole vaulter Dan Hyatt and javelin thrower Josh Kingerski, who each recorded an NCAA provisional mark in their respective events. Hyatt took second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.90 meters and Kingerski was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 58.92 meters. Drew Layton also hit the PSAC standard in the pole vault in ninth place at 4.60 meters to give SRU a pair of top-10 finishes in the event.

Kanye Thompson and AJ Virata led the way in the short sprints with a trio of individual top-10 showings. Thompson was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 10.73 seconds, with Virata taking 10th in 10.78 seconds. Virata then came back and took eighth in the 200-meter dash in 21.83 seconds.
