Rock set for SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games Saturday

Slippery Rock will send 83 track & field athletes to the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University indoor track and field teams will travel to the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio Saturday for the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games.

QUICK PREVIEW AND RANKINGS
Slippery Rock will send 39 men and 44 women to the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games for a final tune-up or qualifying opportunity before the PSAC Championships, which will take place next Sunday and Monday Feb. 18-19 at Lehigh University.
 
On the men's side, Slippery Rock enters this weekend with five men that own NCAA marks on the year, headlined by Dan Hyatt in the pole vault. Hyatt leads a trio of SRU vaulters that have the NCAA standard and currently ranks No. 16 in Division II at 4.95 meters. Bradon Schneider ranks No. 24 (4.90m) and Drew Layton ranks No. 34 (4.84m). Joshua Gose leads the way in the shot put and currently ranks No. 23 in Division II with a toss of 16.72 meters. Seaton Wozniak is just behind at No. 26 (16.52m). Other Slippery Rock men that currently own top 50 marks in Division II include AJ Virata at No. 42 in the 200-meter dash (21.70) and Zack Duda  at No. 49 in the heptathlon (4,591 points). SRU currently ranks first in the PSAC in two events. Matthew Crow leads the league in the 60-meter hurdles (8.22 seconds) and SRU ranks first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:18.27.
 
On the women's side, The Rock also have five athletes that have recorded an NCAA provisional mark this year. Sarah Corrie owns the highest national rank for Slippery Rock this season at No. 18 in the shot put with her season-best of 14.21 meters, which is also No. 1 in the PSAC. Kendall Grossman has hit the NCAA standard in the pole vault in every meet this winter and currently sits at No. 19 on the national leaderboard and No. 1 in the PSAC with a mark of 3.80 meters. SRU added two new NCAA marks last weekend with Anna Igims breaking the SRU record in the mile with the PSAC's No. 1 time of 4:56.84, which sits No. 49 in Division II, and Lydia Latimer recording a score of 3,325 points in the pentathlon, which moved her up to No. 42 nationally. Igims also ranks No. 1 in the PSAC in the 3,000-meter run (10:15.16). The final NCAA mark this winter belongs to Samantha Gilbert with her school record of 7.65 seconds in the 60-meter dash, which currently sits at No. 59 nationally.

UP NEXT

Slippery Rock will travel to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania next weekend for the PSAC Championships Feb. 18-19. The PSAC meet will begin on a Sunday this year and conclude on a Monday.
