Allman named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week

Slippery Rock women’s soccer goalkeeper Leah Allman received PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in her career, the conference office announced Monday.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's soccer goalkeeper Leah Allman received Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in her career, the conference office announced Monday.

Allman led The Rock in net to a 1-0-1 week that saw a 1-1 tie with No. 5 Gannon University as well as a 1-0 win over California (Pa.), both coming at James Egli Field. In total, she made six saves between the two games while facing 17 shots.

The sophomore keeper made five saves against the nationally ranked Golden Knights, an offense that entered that game ranking sixth in Division II with 20.3 shots per game. Additionally, that performance kept Allman undefeated against nationally ranked opponents, now 1-0-1 in her two-year career.

Allman made just one save against the Vulcans Oct. 5, but it was a diving stop in the 72nd minute against a Cal breakaway that saved SRU's 1-0 advantage. That save also lifted Allman to her 10th career shutout in just her 28th career appearance.

Four of Allman's 10 shutouts have come this year, with her outing against Cal adding to a 3-0 win at Pitt-Johnstown and a pair of 6-0 victories at Edinboro and Clarion.

A native of Olmsted Township, Ohio, Allman ranks 32nd in Division II and fourth in the PSAC with a quartet of shutouts this year. Only 15 goalies nationally throughout Division II have played more time than Allman, who has spent all 810 possible minutes in net for The Rock.

On the year, Allman has now recorded 34 saves on 93 shots faced, earning a GAA of 0.89 and a save percentage of .810.

Allman joins Bailey McGee and Libby Zacharyasz in becoming the third SRU women's soccer player to win a PSAC West weekly award this year. Zacharyasz was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career Sept. 16, while McGee got her first selection to the Athlete of the Week honor Sept. 30.

Allman will look to lead The Rock to another strong week beginning 7 p.m. Wednesday when Slippery Rock hosts Ashland University at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium for a non-conference fixture. The Eagles were ranked eighth nationally in last week's United Soccer Coaches poll.
