EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team won the Fighting Scot Invitational Friday evening at Edinboro's Doug Watts XC Course.

The Rock took the team title despite running without their top two runners with
Anna Igims and
Ruthie Hughes both taking this week off.
SRU claimed the team win with a score of 49 points, edging hosting Edinboro in second place with 57 points. Indiana (Pa.) took third with 85 points, followed by Lake Erie in fourth with 106 points and West Liberty in fifth with 111 points. Eight teams posted a complete team score and 73 runners from 10 different schools completed the 6,000-meter course.

Jennifer Cichra led the way for Slippery Rock with a runner-up finish after covering the course in 23:15.
Morgan Dennison also scored a top 10 finish after taking eighth in 23:50.

Carissa Flynn was 12th in 24:10, followed by
Maddie Grillo in 13th in 24:17 and
Hannah Burgoon in 14th in 24:26 to round out the five scorers.

SRU put six runners in the top 15 with
Tatiana Holt taking 15th in 24:32.
Lydia Valeriano capped the top seven finishers for The Rock in 18th place in 24:57.

Friday's meet was the final tune-up for SRU before The Rock will attempt to defend their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title in two weeks when Kutztown University hosts the PSAC Championships Oct. 26.
