Rock men win three events at Wuske Invitational

Matthew Crow, Dan Hyatt and Seaton Wozniak picked up wins to lead The Rock men's track & field team at the Jim Wuske Invitational Saturday at Mount Union.

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's track & field team won three events and recorded 14 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks and three NCAA provisional marks at the Jim Wuske Invitational Saturday at the University of Mount Union.
 
The meet began at 10 a.m. and wrapped up at 9 p.m. after covering 11 hours of action with just over 20 collegiate teams represented.
 
The Rock picked up wins in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and shot put events and recorded NCAA provisional marks in the pole vault and shot put.
 
The lone win on the track came from Matthew Crow, who topped the field in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.22 seconds, narrowly missing the NCAA provisional mark of 8.20 seconds. Brenden Lewis took second in the event in 8.48 seconds to give SRU a 1-2 sweep in the hurdles.
 
Dan Hyatt continued his strong start to the indoor season with a win in the pole vault after clearing an NCAA provisional mark of 4.89 meters. Hyatt has now cleared bars of 4.95, 4.91 and 4.89 meters this season. He led The Rock to three top five marks in the event. Drew Layton was third at 4.69 meters and Bradon Schneider was fifth at 4.49 meters.
 
The final win and NCAA mark of the meet came from Seaton Wozniak, who topped the field in the shot put with a throw of 16.48 meters. Joshua Gose was second at 16.29 meters and Zach Gose also hit the PSAC standard in the event in eighth place with a throw of 14.20 meters. The Gose brothers closed out their day by also hitting the PSAC mark in the weight throw with Zach taking fifth with a toss of 15.66 meters and Joshua finishing sixth at 14.78 meters.
 
Slippery Rock also placed three men in the top five in the triple jump with Taye Lynch leading the way in second place with a leap of 14.05 meters. Ian James was third with a jump of 13.48 meters and Zack Duda was fifth with a mark of 13.31 meters.
 
AJ Virata and Kanye Thompson both hit the PSAC standard in the 60-meter dash. Virata ran the top time in the prelims of 7.03 seconds, but did not race the final. Thompson took third in the finals in 7.01 seconds.
 
The final PSAC mark on the track came in the 200-meter dash, where Jacob Thompson was fourth in 22.88 seconds. Crow took fifth in 22.92 seconds, just missing the PSAC standard of 22.90 seconds for a 200-meter flat track.
 
Kadin Johnson led a trio of SRU runners to top five finishes in the 400-meter dash with a runner-up finish in 51.37 seconds. Jacob Thompson was third in 51.60 seconds and Kyle Rauchut was fifth in 52.07 seconds.
 
SRU also got a top five finish from Ryan Corbitt in the 800-meter run after he took third in 1:59.65. Corbitt then closed out the meet by teaming with Anthony Robare, Brady Hoffman and Vinson Eggleston to place fifth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:42.91.
 
Saturday marked Slippery Rock's only regular season meet on a 200-meter flat track with the rest of the regular season being run on faster 300-meter surfaces.
 
The Rock will return to action next Friday and Saturday at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University. A look at the top five finishers and qualifiers from Saturday can be found below. Full results are available HERE.
