SERIES HISTORY VS. EDINBORO
Wednesday will mark the 40th all-time contest between The Rock and the Fighting Scots, a series that SRU leads 26-5-8. Slippery Rock has won seven of the last eight meetings, not having lost since Oct. 2, 2019. In the last six games, The Rock have outscored Edinboro 17-4. While playing at home, Slippery Rock has gone 13-4-2 against the Fighting Scots. SRU has not lost at home to Edinboro since falling 3-1 in 2016. The only other times the Fighting Scots have come away from Slippery Rock with a win have been in 1999, 2001 and 2009.

LAST MEETING
After beating Edinboro on the road on Sept. 24, 2022, Slippery Rock hosted the Fighting Scots Oct. 22 for Senior Day, shutting them out, 2-0. Maddie DeLucio and Faith Diffenbacher both scored their second goals of the season. DeLucio nabbed the first in the 17th minute on a Brooke Riefenstahl assist, with Diffenbacher doubling the lead in the 63rd minute on a ball from Libby Zacharyasz. Slippery Rock outshot Edinboro 24-8, taking 15 corner kicks in the process. Morgan Sarver and Ashley Rea both contributed six shots in the win.

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock defeated IUP last week, 3-2, getting on the board just 53 seconds into the match with Sydney Patrick's fourth goal of the season. After the Crimson Hawks tied the game with a 17th minute penalty kick, Rea's second goal of the year gave SRU back the lead, 2-1. In the 43rd minute, Sarver soared a goal on a ball she received on the sideline from Riefenstahl. With 50 seconds remaining in the half, IUP got one back, cutting the lead to 3-2.

In the second half, IUP would not see an opportunity to tie the game, as The Rock outshot the Crimson Hawks 7-0. Despite a 5-0 second half advantage in corner kicks, SRU also never found the back of the net again, falling back on its first half heroics to claim a one-goal win.

RACKING UP THE POINTS
With an assist against IUP, Riefenstahl became the 12th different player to score points for The Rock this season. Patrick's 12 points on four goals and four assists is most in the PSAC. She is tied for second in the conference in both goals and assists, as well.

Sarver's 10 points on three goals and four assists is ranks second for Slippery Rock, but her 36 shots are more than double the next highest tally on the team (DeLucio, 17). Sarver has taken the most amount of shots in the PSAC and is second in Division II behind UNC Pembroke's Anna Grossheim with 37.

Rea now has the third highest point total on the team, with five on two goals and one assist. Last year, she finished with a career-high nine points on four goals and one assist.

A FIERY OFFENSE
As a team, Slippery Rock has taken 129 shots, fourth most in Division II. SRU averages 2.67 goals per game coming from 21.5 shots. With 16 goals on the year, Slippery Rock has scored the second most goals in the PSAC, behind Mercyhurst University with 18. Additionally, SRU's 10.67 shots on goal per game is highest in the PSAC West and ninth in the nation.

ONES TO WATCH
Both Jaime Dermotta and Skylar Munnikhuysen have taken five shots on goal this year, with Munnikhuysen netting one goal.

An attacking threat as a defender, Zacharyasz has taken nine shots, four of which have gone on target. Olivia Yoder, a versatile player found up front and in the midfield, has three points on one goal and one assist, having taken five shots this year.

Sophomore Leah Walter, who appeared in three games last season, saw her first minutes of 2023 against IUP. Walter, a midfielder, has worked with the likes of freshman Sophia Palermo, who has taken four shots on goal this year and has scored one goal.

Fellow freshman midfielder Lindsey Price has also netted a goal, taking three shots on goal. Another sophomore midfielder who saw time against IUP is Briona Rice, who tallied a goal against UPJ earlier this season.

NOTHING GETS THROUGH
Slippery Rock's defense has been stout throughout its first half-dozen games, led by Diffenbacher, Riefenstahl, Zacharyasz and Nina King. As a team, Slippery Rock has only allowed nine corners (1.5 per game).

Conversely, the four star defenders have been known to join in on the offensive action when SRU takes the corner, which happens 8.5 times per game, more than anyone else in the PSAC. As a collective, the quartet has four points on one goal and two assists.

A WEEKLONG STAYCATION
Slippery Rock has not played three straight home games in the regular season since 2016, when it defeated Mercyhurst, Mansfield University and Gannon University in 1-0, 1-0 and 3-1 wins, respectively.

Later that year, Slippery Rock wrapped up the season with a four-game homestand, going 2-2. One of those losses was to Edinboro, the most recent home loss to the Fighting Scots that The Rock has suffered. In that set of matches, SRU also fell to No. 14 Kutztown University and collected shutout wins against Lock Haven University and Seton Hill University.

UNDER THE CROSSBAR
Freshman Leah Allman was back in action last week against IUP, but only had to make one save to secure the win. She faced eight shots, the second most in her career. Allowing just a pair of goals to the Crimson Hawks, her GAA stands at 1.62. Now with 11 saves on the season, her save percentage is .550.

WHERE THEY STAND
Nearly at the halfway point of the regular season, Slippery Rock has tallied nine points on three wins, putting them in second in the PSAC West behind 4-0 Mercyhurst. Edinboro is tied for third in the PSAC West at six points.

In the United Soccer Coaches Poll, Slippery Rock slid just one spot this week in the Atlantic Region from eighth to ninth. The Atlantic Region is made up of all schools in the PSAC, Mountain East Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

EDINBORO SCOUTING REPORT
After starting the year 0-2-1, Edinboro racked up two wins against California (Pa.) and Clarion last week to improve to 2-2-1. The Fighting Scots took down Cal in a 2-0 decision and posted a second straight blank sheet with a 6-0 win over Clarion. As a result, the Fighting Scots have averaged three goals per game in their last three outings.

The Fighting Scots have been an offense by committee, with their six goals against Clarion coming from six different players. Leading Edinboro on the year is sophomore Emily Vogel, who has nine points on four goals and one assist.

Vogel got off to a hot start by scoring both of Edinboro's goals in its season-opening draw with Notre Dame College. Her 1.8 points per game are third best in the PSAC West. She has taken at least one shot in every game this year.

Junior defender Sophia Depew has played just over 35 minutes per game this year, but has two goals thus far. In Edinboro's 3-1 loss to Gannon, she had the Fighting Scots' lone goal.

Reece Enochs and Megan Malits both have three points on one goal and one assist. Enochs has taken nine shots on the year, second most on the team.

The Fighting Scots have used junior Kaylee Lauriel in net all year. Lauriel has already faced 51 shots in five games. Lauriel has a GAA of 1.20, fourth best in the PSAC West. She has made 20 stops, the most in the PSAC West, and comes into Wednesday with a save percentage of .769.

Edinboro is searching for its first winning season since 2019, when it went 12-6-3 en route to losing the PSAC Championship to Slippery Rock, in a 2-1 match played at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Riefenstahl is the only active member of the SRU roster to have played in that game, placing on shot on net.

Edinboro is led by four-time conference coach of the year, Gary Kagiavas, in his 27th season.

LOOKING AHEAD
Slippery Rock will wrap up its three-game homestand 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Clarion at James Egli Field. The Rock swept the Golden Eagles last year in a pair of 4-0 victories. Saturday's contest will also be the second annual Bobby McGraw Memorial Game.
