SRU named PSAC Women's Outdoor T&F Coaching Staff of the Year

Slippery Rock was named the PSAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year in an announcement from the league office Thursday.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University track & field coaching staff was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year in an announcement from the league office Thursday.

The Rock coaching staff were selected as the top women's outdoor track & field staff after voting by the head coaches in the league. The honor comes after Slippery Rock claimed the 2023 PSAC title last month to pick up the 17th women's outdoor title in program history and the first since 2019.

It also marks the second coaching award this spring for SRU after head coach Bill Jordan was previously named the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association following his first season as head coach.

"I'm really glad the PSAC changed this award to the coaching staff of the year," said Jordan. "It takes a huge effort from a lot of people on our staff for us to be successful and being able to recognize all of our coaches for their contributions to our team title means a great deal to me. I'm so proud of this group and all of our student-athletes."

Slippery Rock qualified at least one female athlete to compete in every event at the PSAC Championships this spring and came away with top-eight finishers and scorers in 19 of the 21 events at the conference meet.

The Rock had three individual PSAC champions and recorded All-PSAC finishes (top three) in 11 different events. Trinity Clark (javelin), Sarah Corrie (shot put) and Anna Igims (steeplechase) all won individual titles.

Igims, who ran 10:39 in the steeplechase, and Tiffany Jolayemi, who threw 54.20 meters in the hammer, set SRU school records this spring and Igims and Clark both qualified for and finished in the top 15 at the National Championships.

The Slippery Rock coaching staff includes Jordan and full-time assistants Tabitha Bemis (jumps, multis, sprints and hurdles) and Bobby Over (distance and mid-distance), along with volunteer assistants Nathan Shadeck (sprints and hurdles), Judy Geist (throws), Jim Geist (javelin), Vanere Maynard (sprints) and Andrew Maxwell (distance).

Slippery Rock finished the 2023 outdoor season as the No. 1 ranked team in the Atlantic Region on the women's side while also ranking No. 3 in the region on the men's side.
