LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University softball standouts
Kelsi Anderson and
Alexsa Hurd were named to the 2023 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Â
Tuesday's announcement marks the first all-conference honors for Anderson and the second in Hurd's career. The program has now had all-conference honorees in back-to-back seasons.
Â
Anderson, a pitcher from Dublin, Ohio, garnered first-team recognition after a great junior campaign. She anchored The Rock's rotation, going 14-8 with a 2.82 ERA, 171 strikeouts and a .218 opponent batting average over 141.2 innings pitched.Â
Â
Across the PSAC West, Anderson led the division in both strikeouts and opponent batting average while ranking third in the division in wins, third in innings pitched.
Â
During the 2023 season, Anderson broke Slippery Rock's single-season wins and strikeouts records. Additionally, she set a new program record in career strikeouts with a current three-year total of 416.
Â
A well decorated member of the pitching staff, Anderson also ranks third in program history in career wins (29), fifth in career shutouts (7), sixth in career starts (63), seventh in career innings pitched (370.1) and 12th in career complete games (26).
Â
Hurd earned first team accolades in the utility/pitcher category. The sophomore from Suffield, Ohio had an outstanding season as one of the best two-way players in the conference.
Â
As one of The Rock's best hitters, Hurd, a second baseman when playing the field, ended the regular season hitting .389 with 32 runs scored, 11 home runs and 53 RBI all the while slugging .673, stealing six bases and posting a .451 on-base percentage. At her best in big moments, Hurd also hit .525 with runners in scoring position.
Â
Hurd's big year at the plate resulted in her breaking the program's single-season RBI record. In just two years at SRU, Hurd already ranks seventh in career RBI (73) and eight in career home runs (15).
Â
In the circle, Hurd served as a perfect complement to Anderson as The Rock's No. 2 starter. She compiled an 11-4 record with a 3.43 ERA, 115 strikeouts and a .229 opponent batting average over 106 innings pitched. Three of her 11 wins came by way of complete-game shutout.
Â
Arguably the most versatile Athlete in the PSAC West, Hurd enters the postseason ranked amongst the Western Division's best in nearly every important statistical category. She is second in the division in RBI, third in hits (63), third in home runs, third in doubles (13), third in pitching strikeouts, third in opponent batting average, fifth in slugging percentage, fifth in on-base percentage, fifth in batting average and sixth in pitching wins.
