TEAM OUTLOOK
Shippensburg enters the meet looking to win a 14th straight PSAC title at the outdoor championships. Slippery Rock and East Stroudsburg appear to be the most likely to have any chance of disrupting that streak. The Rock narrowed a gap to the Raiders from more than 100 points at the 2022 indoor meet to 32 points at the indoor championships in 2023 and will be hoping to continue that trend outdoor. Those three teams appear the most likely to compete for the two team trophies, but California (Pa.) has put together a strong spring and could be looking to break into the top three as well.
Â
SRU INDIVIDUALS OUTLOOK
Slippery Rock has at least one entry in every single event of the championships and has at least three men qualified in 10 different events. The Rock return three champions from the 2022 outdoor meet in
Dalton Anderson (javelin),
Dan Hyatt (pole vault) and
John Eakin (shot put).
AJ Virata also won the high jump last spring, but has elected to only focus on the sprints this year and will not defend his title.
Â
Anderson and Hyatt enter the meet ranked No. 1 in the league, while Eakin is ranked No. 2 in the shot put. Virata enters the weekend ranked No. 1 in the PSAC in the 100-meter dash and No. 2 in the 200-meter dash. He will also run a leg of the No. 2 ranked 4x100-meter relay.
Â
Other SRU men that enter the weekend ranked in the top three in their respective events include
Shannon Dooley (800-meter run),
Devon Navaroli (1,500-meter run),
Matthew Crow (110-meter hurdles and
Joshua VanDeMark (hammer throw).
Â
A full list of SRU's entries with their seed position and marks can be found below.
Â
AWARDS
The top three finishers in each individual event will earn All-PSAC honors. The top two teams will be presented with a championship trophy and a runner-up trophy. The PSAC will also award multiple "Outstanding Athlete of the Meet" awards in a brief ceremony following competition Saturday evening.
Â
RECAPS AND RESULTS
Recaps and results from all three days of the meet will be posted to www.RockAthletics.com Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night after results are finalized each day.
