VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Slippery Rock University seniors
Bryan Dworek and
Joshua VanDeMark both earned All-America honors with their performances at the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships Friday from the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Â
Both Dworek and VanDeMark were competing at their first career national meet and came away with top 12 finishes to pick up All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Â
Dworek kicked the day off by placing 11th in the long jump finals with a leap of 7.11 meters. He missed the cut for the final round by just three-quarters of an inch, but still finished two positions higher than his No. 13 seed entering the event.
Â
VanDeMark then closed out the day for Slippery Rock with an 11th place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 19.36 meters. That effort came on his final attempt and moved him into an All-America finishing position after he entered the competition seeded 16th in a field of 16 total athletes.
Â
Dworek and VanDeMark were the only two Slippery Rock men competing at the indoor national meet. The Rock will be represented Saturday on the final day of competition by Sarah Corrie in the women's shot put.
