Eakin earns PSAC weekly award

John Eakin was named the PSAC Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark Saturday at Mount Union.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University senior shot putter John Eakin was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at last weekend's Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union.

Eakin picks up his first weekly award this winter after winning the shot put competition Saturday with a season-best and NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 17.06 meters (55' 11.75"). That mark currently sits second in the PSAC and No. 21 among all throwers in Division II.

The senior from Bradford, Pennsylvania topped a field of more than 60 throwers to win the competition. Slippery Rock teammate Joshua Gose was the runner-up with an NCAA provisional mark of 16.44 meters.

Eakin and Gose now rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the PSAC this season and No. 21 and No. 23 among all throwers in Division II.

Slippery Rock will return to action this Saturday at the SPIRE Indoor Games hosted by the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
