SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Callie Chevalier, Kate Lachendro, Erica Selfridge and Jaeden Yost represented the Slippery Rock University volleyball team on the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

In order to be eligible to earn CSC Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must own a cumulative grade point average above 3.50 and have significant athletic credentials. Additionally, athletes must have competed in 90 percent of their institution's matches or have started in at least 66 percent of its matches.

Nomination limits per institution are in place for each sport in which the CSC sponsors an academic all-district team. In the sport of volleyball, each school can nominate a maximum of four student-athletes.

Tuesday's announcement marks the third season in which Lachendro has been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Selfridge also earned her second honor from the CSC while Chevalier and Yost are making their first appearances on the team.

Selfridge, who carries a 4.0 GPA as a communications major, capped off a stellar junior season by earning second team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division accolades.

SRU's top outside hitter in 2023, Selfridge started all 29 matches and played in all 103 sets for The Rock as part of a career-year. She recorded 313 kills, averaging 3.04 kills per set on a .192 attack percentage along with 30 aces. Defensively, she made 395 digs – 3.83 per set – and came away with 14 blocks.

A secondary education major with a 3.94 GPA, Lachendro was recently named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region Team as an honorable mention selection as one of the top liberos in Division II.

Lachendro amassed 508 digs - an average of 5.35 digs per set - to go with 18 aces. Making her season totals even more impressive is the fact that Lachendro missed two matches (eight sets). On the national stage, Lachendro ranked 13th in all Division II in digs per set. Across the Atlantic Region, she ranks second in digs per set and sixth in total digs.

Yost has compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA as a social work major at The Rock. The leader of SRU's setter rotation, Yost started 19 of 29 matches played in 2023 on the way to producing team-highs of 551 assists (5.57 per set) and 35 aces as well as 190 digs. The Springfield, Ohio native tallied 20 or more assists on 15 occasions.

In addition to being one of SRU's top all-around talents on the court, Chevalier has also recorded a 3.50 GPA in Slippery Rock's exercise science program.

Chevalier followed up a promising freshman season in 2022 with a breakout year in 2023 that saw her post 270 kills, a .161 attack percentage, 21 aces, 247 digs and 57 blocks. She ranked among The Rock's best in virtually every statistical category.

A select group of all-district selections, which will be determined by a CSC sub-committee, will now advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The CSC Academic All-America Team will be announced Jan. 9.

Slippery Rock completed its 2023 season with a 14-15 overall record. SRU played 12 matches against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Slippery Rock's 14 wins this season are tied for the program's highest victory total over the last nine years.
