LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Slippery Rock University volleyball standout Kate Lachendro was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
 
Lachendro earned the honor after helping to lead SRU to a 1-1 record last week, including one of the top single-match performances by a libero in Slippery Rock program history.
 
As part of Slippery Rock's five-set victory against California (Pa.), Lachendro made 45 digs and served one ace. Her 45-ace effort broke The Rock's previous single-match dig record of 42 by Courtney Oberlander against Lock Haven in 2016.
 
Following The Rock's win over the Vulcans, Lachendro recorded a match-high 12 digs in SRU's three-set loss at Seton Hill University. For the week, Lachendro averaged 28.5 digs and 2.5 assists per match in eight total sets.
 
Lachendro has played in 25 of a possible 27 matches this season. One of the top liberos in the Atlantic Region, she has produced 468 total digs while averaging 5.32 dis per set and serving 17 aces.
 
The State College, Pennsylvania native begins the week ranked second in the PSAC in both total digs and digs per set. On the national stage, Lachendro is 13th in all of Division II in digs per set and 30th in total digs.
 
A veteran of 85 career matches, Lachendro is currently situated seventh in Slippery Rock program history with 1,612 career digs.
 
Slippery Rock will finish out the regular season with a pair of home matches this weekend 7 p.m. Friday against Indiana University (Pa.) and 2 p.m. Saturday versus Pitt-Johnstown on Senior Day.
