Rock lands six on CSC Academic All-District Team

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team saw six student-athletes honored on the 2023 CSC Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team saw six student-athletes honored on the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
 
In order to be eligible to earn a CSC Academic All-District selection, a student-athlete must own a cumulative grade point average above 3.50 and have significant athletic credentials. Additionally, athletes must have competed in 90 percent of their institution's games or have started in at least 66 percent of its games.
 
Maddie DeLucio, Nina King, Sydney Patrick, Brooke Riefenstahl, Morgan Sarver and Libby Zacharyasz were all named to the honor. Both Patrick and King are being honored for the second time in their respective careers.
 
DeLucio, a junior from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, registered 12 points on five goals and two assists, including a game-winner. Starting in 13 of 18 games played, DeLucio placed 18 of 35 shots on target and has accumulated a career total of 22 points on nine goals and four assists. DeLucio is a three-time Dean's List honoree and a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete. She has a 3.58 cumulative GPA as an early childhood education major, having completed 74 credit hours.
 
King, a junior from Washington, Pennsylvania, started and played the full 90 minutes of all 19 games as a leading force on the defense. She chipped in offensively with one of her three career assists. In the backfield, the three-time All-PSAC West honoree was part of a stellar defense that allowed just 9.1 shots and 2.2 corner kicks per game, helping to create six shutouts on the year. King is a four-time Dean's List honoree and a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete majoring in early childhood education. She has earned a 3.73 cumulative GPA after completing 73 credit hours.
 
Patrick, a senior hailing from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, started all 19 games on the season and led The Rock with 23 points on six goals and a team-high 11 assists. She ranked seventh in Division II and second in the PSAC in assists, totaling the second most assists in a single-season in SRU history. Additionally, she ranked ninth in the PSAC in points per game with 1.21. A five-time Dean's Lis honoree and a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, Patrick is majoring in exercise science and has a 3.84 cumulative GPA, having completed 117 credit hours.
 
Riefenstahl, a native of Hellertown, Pennsylvania, is a senior who started all 19 games as a defender, playing the full 90 minutes in each contest. On top of her help defensively, Riefenstahl netted five points on a pair of goals and one assist, including one game-winner. Over the last four seasons, Riefenstahl has started 66 of 71 games, averaging 84.6 minutes per match. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Exercise Science degree and is currently working toward her second Bachelor's degree in Leadership Studies. She is also an eight-time Dean's List honoree and a four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete. Riefenstahl has completed 132 credit hours in the classroom and maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.93.
 
Sarver, one of the two sophomores from SRU to be named to the CSC Academic All-District Team this year, started all 18 games that she appeared in totaling 21 points on six goals and nine assists. The Altoona, Pennsylvania native scored two game-winners and took 67 shots in total, 18th in Division II and third in the PSAC.
 
Leading the team with 31 shots on goal, Sarver has now tallied 30 points on nine goals and 12 assists in her first two seasons. Having completed 58 credit hours, Sarver has maintained a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA while majoring in biology. She is a two-time Dean's List honoree and a PSAC Scholar-Athlete, as well.
 
Zacharyasz joins Sarver in representing the sophomore class on the CSC Academic All-District Team. The Strongsville, Ohio native started and played the full 90 minutes in all 19 games, recording 10 points on five goals including three game-winners and one goal in the PSAC Tournament. A two-time PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week, Zacharyasz placed 17 of 28 shots on target. She has earned a 4.00 cumulative GPA majoring in homeland security, completing 55 credit hours. Additionally, she is a two-time Dean's List honoree and a PSAC Scholar-Athlete.
 
Slippery Rock wrapped up its season in the PSAC Tournament Nov. 6 after putting up an impressive 12-4-3 overall record, its 27th consecutive winning record in a year in which a full season was played.
