SERIES HISTORY vs. CALIFORNIA
Saturday will mark the 45
th all-time meeting between The Rock and the Vulcans, a series that Slippery Rock holds a 29-11-4 record in. Of the last three matches, The Rock have posted a 0-1-2 record. Prior to that, SRU went on a seven-game winning streak.
Â
At home, Slippery Rock is 14-6 against Cal, most recently losing Oct. 19, 2022, 3-1, at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Prior to that match, California had not won at Slippery Rock since 2012.
Â
In the last 10 matches, Slippery Rock has outscored the Vulcans, 24-6.
LAST MEETING
Slippery Rock traveled to Cal Sept. 30, having to settle for a 0-0 draw. The Rock's best opportunity came in the 18
th minute when
Morgan Sarver's shot drilled the crossbar. She continued to lead the offense by placing four of her five shots on net, but found no luck in getting past the keeper. The Rock led in shots (12-4), shots on goal (8-2) and corner kicks (8-2).

LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock picked up its sixth straight victory Wednesday when it defeated Edinboro on the road, 3-2. The win marked The Rock's fourth season sweep over a PSAC West opponent this year.
Sydney Patrick scored in the eighth minute before
Ashley Rea doubled SRU's lead to 2-0 in the 26
th minute.
Â
Edinboro fought back vigilantly, though, tying the game, 2-2, from 31
st and 50
th minute tallies. Ultimately, it was defender
Faith Diffenbacher who punched in a loose ball during a corner kick in the 63
rd minute to give SRU a 3-2 advantage.
Â
Both The Rock and the Fighting Scots landed eight of their 13 total shots on frame, while Slippery Rock led in corner kicks, 5-4.
Leah Allman made six saves in net for SRU on 13 shots. Â
Â
WHERE THEY STAND
Slippery Rock has already clinched a playoff berth in this year's PSAC Tournament, marking The Rock's 13
th consecutive postseason appearance. Currently, SRU finds itself in third in the PSAC West with 32 points, just one behind Gannon University and four behind Mercyhurst University.
Â
Technically speaking, Slippery Rock is still mathematically capable of being the PSAC West's top seed and winning a division title. It will more likely become a battle with Gannon for second, though, which will determine which of the two schools will host the other in the first round of the PSAC Tournament.
Â
Slippery Rock was named in the initial NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Regional Rankings Oct. 25. For more details on the NCAA National Tournament selection process, read
HERE.
Â
Sitting in ninth in the PSAC West with five points, California has been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention.
Â
SENIOR DAY
Slippery Rock is honoring four seniors at Saturday's game:
Â
Brandie Nauman – A native of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, Nauman has been a reliable member of The Rock for the past three seasons, seeing time as both a forward and a midfielder. Nauman has made an impact on her teammates both at practice and at each match.
Â
Sydney Patrick – A forward from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Patrick ranks ninth in program history for assists in a career. She currently has 43 career points on 12 goals and 19 assists. Patrick was named to the 2022 CSC Academic All-District Team.
Â
Ashley Rea – A graduate student from Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, Rea has been a prolific attacker in her five years at SRU, making her 70
th game appearance Saturday. Currently working toward her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy, Rea was also named to the 2022 CSC Academic All-District Team.
Â
Brooke Riefenstahl – Hailing from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, Riefenstahl has flourished into one of the program's top defenders of recent, playing close to 6,000 total minutes. Riefenstahl was named a first team All-PSAC West selection in her freshman year and was a second team All-PSAC West honoree a year ago.
Â
OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION
Leading the attack are both Patrick and Sarver, who each have 31 points on six goals and nine assists. Their .563 assists per game rank first in the PSAC West.
Â
Rea has 13 points on five goals and three assists, while
Maddie DeLucio has crossed into the double digits in points with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
Â
Skylar Munnikhuysen finds herself up to seven points on three goals and one assist while
Libby Zacharyasz's three goals grant her six points. Defenders Riefenstahl and
Faith Diffenbacher have five and four points, respectively.
Â
Olivia Yoder and
Jaime Dermotta have four and three points, while
Sophia Palermo,
Lindsey Price and
Briona Rice each have two points on one goal.
Nina King and
Bailey McGee both have one point on one assist.
A BOMBARDMENT OF SHOTS
As a team, Slippery Rock has now reached 301 shots on the year. The Rock's 18.81 shots per game rank second in the PSAC and 15
th in Division II.
Â
Individually, Sarver leads the team with 66 shots, ranking 15
th nationally. Sarver has also taken a team-high 31 shots on goal.
Â
DeLucio, Patrick and Rea have combined for 98 shots, making up 32.6 percent of the team's output. Munnikhuysen has added 25 shots, while Zacharyasz and McGee have tacked on 23 and 20 shots, respectively.
Â
Dermotta continues to be one of the team's most accurate shot-takers, placing 12 of her 19 total shots on target.
Â
STAYING HOT
A win or tie against Cal would extend Slippery Rock's unbeaten streak to eight, which would be the program's longest since 2003, as well as the seventh longest unbeaten streak in program history. Slippery Rock also went on an eight-game undefeated run in 1996.
Â
CORNER KICKS
The Rock have now taken more corners than their opponents in each of the last seven games. In that span, Slippery Rock has held an advantage in corner kicks, 52-13. SRU's 7.38 corner kicks per game are second in the PSAC and 10
th in Division II.
A MILESTONE WIN
Slippery Rock's 3-2 victory over Edinboro Oct. 25 marked the 350
th victory in program history. Slippery Rock won its 300th all-time win Oct. 20, 2018, by defeating West Chester University, 1-0.
HIGHLIGHTING THE DEFENSE
Slippery Rock's defense has been led by the core four of Diffenbacher, King, Riefenstahl and Zacharyasz, none of whom have missed a single minute of playing time this year.
Â
SRU's defense has not allowed the opposition to take more shots, shots on goal or corner kicks than the Green and White in the last seven matches. While SRU has taken 301 shots this year, it has only allowed 133. Likewise, compared to the 118 corner kicks that Slippery Rock has attempted, The Rock's defense has allowed a measly 27.
Â
KEEPING THEM OUT
Allman, The Rock's starting goalkeeper in every game this season, has increased her tally on the year to 42 saves, now having faced 129 shots. Looking to repeat with another shutout against the Vulcans, Allman enters Saturday with a GAA of 1.35 and a save percentage of .667.
