LAST TIME OUT
Slippery Rock dropped a three-set decision at Indiana University (Pa.) on Oct. 14 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
• Tuesday begins the second half of The Rock's 16-match round robin PSAC West schedule. SRU opens the second leg sitting sixth in the league standings with a conference mark of 3-5. The top four teams in the PSAC West standings at the end of regular season qualify for the conference championship tournament.

• While the Clarion match is by no means a must-win for SRU, a victory over the Golden Eagles, which were receiving votes in the most recent AVCA Top-25, could pay huge dividends at the conclusion of the season as Slippery Rock (3-5), Pitt-Johnstown (5-3), IUP (5-3) and Edinboro (4-4) all battle for potential postseason berths.

• Slippery Rock features a four-headed outside attack consisting of Erica Selfridge, Callie Chevalier, Alayna Chizmar and Chelsie Wheeler.

• A starter in all 21 matches this season, Selfridge enters the week leading SRU with 220 kills and 2.97 kills per set in addition to having compiled a .196 attack percentage, 23 aces and 306 digs (4.14 per set).

• One of the top all-around athletes in the PSAC, Selfridge has tallied 10 double-doubles this season while ranking fourth in the PSAC West in digs per set and fifth in kills per set.

• Chevalier, who has three double-digit kill performances in her last five matches, is nearing her first 200-kill collegiate season as she has posted 194 (2.62) through the first 21 matches of 2023 to go along with 42 blocks and 16 aces. She is second on the team in kills while also ranking third in both blocks and digs.

• In addition to being tied for the team lead in aces (26) and having already tallied a career-high 29 blocks, Chizmar also serves as SRU's third leading attacker with 120 kills (1.64).

• Wheeler leads all Slippery Rock's outside hitters with a .201 attack percentage which has translated into 113 kills (1.59) on the year. Wheeler also supplements The Rock's front line defensive efforts with 35 blocks – the fourth highest total on the team.

• Along with Selfridge, middle hitters Lauren VonderHaar and Mary Berger are the only three SRU athletes to have started all 21 matches this season.

• VonderHaar ranks 10th in Division II in total blocks with 86 all the while having chipped in 91 kills on a stellar .325 attack percentage. She is just 14 blocks and nine kills away from being responsible for the 11th 100-kill / 100-block season in program history and first since Michelle Hren in 2013 (187 kills / 141 blocks)

• Berger is having her best collegiate season to date as she has already recorded personal-bests in both total blocks (53), solo blocks (12) and kills (97).

• Libero Kate Lachendro is 17th in Division II, and second in the PSAC West, in digs per set at 5.27 which translates into 348 total digs on the year. She also on the cusp of climbing another rung on The Rock's career digs ladder as her 1,492 are just 20 away from tying Missy Watson (1990-93) for ninth in program history.

• Making Lachendro's dig numbers even more impressive is the fact that she has needed just 285 sets to reach the lofty total. For comparisons sake, Lachendro is the only athlete among SRU's top-20 all-time leaders in digs that has played fewer than 300 career sets.

• Slippery Rock has turned to three setters this season to guide its offensive attack. With Jaeden Yost having logged the most playing time at 70 sets to assist on 400 Rock kills (5.71 per set) all the while matching Chizmar with a team-high 26 aces.

• Peytan Gullickson (59 sets) and Jalynn West (32) make up the remainder of SRU's setter contingent with 197 (3.34) and 126 assists (3.94), respectively.

• Rounding out Slippery Rock's leaders is Paige Weeder, who has established herself as one of The Rock's top servers with 14 aces over 21 matches.

• Kaitlyn Danszczak saw the most extensive time of her young career last weekend by playing in two sets against Pitt-Johnstown and making her first collegiate start in the IUP match. All told, she had three kills and seven digs in the two matches.
