YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's indoor track and field team recorded 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, one NCAA provisional qualifying mark and seven top five finishes at the YSU Collegiate Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University Friday.

More than 1,800 athletes from more than 25 different colleges were in action at Friday's meet, which took nearly 10 hours to complete and wrapped up shortly before 10 p.m.

The top performance from The Rock came in the shot put, where
Joshua Gose took third place with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 16.84 meters. Gose was the top Division II finisher in the competition with two Division I throwers placing ahead of him. His toss of 16.84 meters currently ranks No. 16 among all throwers in Division II. He was joined in the top five at the event by
John Eakin in fifth place. Eakin was the second Division II finisher in the event with his toss of 16.27 meters, which is just shy of the NCAA standard of 16.34 meters.

Slippery Rock also got three PSAC marks in the weight throw with
Joshua VanDeMark leading the way in fourth place with a toss of 17.17 meters.
Joshua Rohland was 12th with a mark of 14.69 meters and
Brandon McCray was 13th with a throw of 14.66 meters.

AJ Virata was busy Friday, competing in three individual events and posting PSAC marks in all three. He took second in the seeded section of the high jump with a clearance of 1.99 meters, placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 22.08 seconds and was 14th in the 60-meter dash in 7.01 seconds.

Dan Hyatt led two pole vaulters to PSAC marks with a sixth place finish in the seeded section of the event with a clearance of 4.63 meters.
Jakob Graff took second in the unseeded section with a mark of 4.20 meters.

Zack Duda and
Bryan Dworek closed out the PSAC marks in the field events with Duda placing sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.39 meters and Dworek finishing ninth in the long jump with a leap of 6.80 meters.

Matthew Crow led SRU to three PSAC marks in the 60-meter hurdles with a seventh place finish in 8.56 seconds.
Brenden Lewis was 13th in 8.75 seconds and
Kyle Adams was 18th in 8.86 seconds.

The final PSAC marks on the day came in the mid-distance races, where
Shannon Dooley and
Devon Navaroli made their indoor season debuts. Dooley took fourth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.50 and Navaroli finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run in 8:42.18.

Navaroli and Dooley then closed out their day by joining with Virata and
Tyler Morosky to place sixth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:26.63.

Slippery Rock will return to Youngstown State again next weekend for the two-day YSU Mid-Major Invite that is scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
