LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team took fifth place in a field of 35 complete teams Saturday in the "Crimson Race" at the LHU Invitational hosted by Lock Haven University.
 
Division I Cornell ran away with the team title with 20 points. Wayne State (Mich.) took second with 48 points, followed by Dickinson with 137 points, Messiah with 139 points and Slippery Rock with 160 points to round out the top five. The Rock were the highest finishing team from the PSAC, outscoring ninth place Bloomsburg (292 points) by 132 points.
 
A total of 35 teams posted a score and 290 men finished the 8,000-meter race at LHU.
 
Troy Hart led Slippery Rock with a 16th place finish with a time of 24:58. Shannon Dooley followed in 25th in 25:19 and Ethan Brentham was 35th in 25:34 to give The Rock three men in the top 35.
 
Devon Navaroli finished in 55th in 26:06 and Michael Novak was 72nd in 26:31 to cap the scorers.
 
John Juszynski was 121st in 27:16 and Noah Johnson rounded out the top seven finishers in 128th in 27:19.
 
Saturday's meet marked by far the largest field SRU has competed in so far this season. The field included nine teams that were ranked in the top 10 of their respective regional rankings. Slippery Rock, which enter the meet ranked ninth in the Atlantic Region, topped No. 6 Lock Haven to finish as the top Atlantic Region team in the race.
 
After competing in each of the last two weeks, Slippery Rock will rest next weekend before returning to action Oct. 8 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.
