SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will look to improve to 2-0-0 on the season with a win 1 p.m. Sunday against Fairmont State University in SRU's final non-conference game of the season at James Egli Field.

NO OT IN 2022
The NCAA announced over the summer that there will be no overtime periods played during the regular season. Overtime will only be played in the postseason and will be two complete 10-minute periods before advancing to penalty kicks. There will be no sudden victory. A season ago, The Rock played in three overtime bouts.

SERIES HISTORY vs FAIRMONT STATE
The Rock traveled to Fairmont State a season ago for the first meeting between the two teams. SRU won the contest 2-0.
Faith Diffenbacher netted her first career goal and Edge registered her second goal of the season thanks to assists from
Kayla Swope. SRU was able to complete the 2-0 shutout with
Emma Yoder making seven saves over 90 minutes.

SUSTAINED SUCCESS
SRU has established itself as one of the top programs in all of NCAA Division ll with 25 consecutive winning seasons. The streak is the seventh longest in NCAA history.

Offensively during the 2021 season The Rock's offense ranked first in the PSAC in scoring average (2.63), scoring margin (+1.65) and goals (52). On the national stage, SRU ranked 11th in Division II in shots on goal per game at 9.84.

SOLID IN SEASON OPENERS
Slippery Rock holds a 15-12-1 (.555) record in season openers dating back to its inaugural season in 1993. In season opening games against non-conference opponents, The Rock claims an even 11-11-1 record.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Since the reign of Giegucz began in 2015, SRU has recorded a 32-11-1 (.744) record at James Egli Field. Additionally, The Rock has outscored opponents 114-39 with 17 matches being shutout victories.

ROCK RETURNERS
While The Rock does return 17 total athletes from a season ago, only nine of the veterans appeared in 10 or more games with just five making at least 10 starts. All told, Slippery Rock lost six starters from last year's team and 52 percent of its scoring production.

Among the key returners are three starters from the 2019 conference championship team in Swope, Yoder and
Brooke Riefenstahl. Swope and Riefenstahl as well
Sierra Lawler and
Sydney Patrick are team captains for SRU this season.

SOLID SENIOR CLASS
Slippery Rock welcomes back a seven-member senior class featuring Riefenstahl, Swope, Yoder, Lawler,
Alaina Mihalik,
Julia Mascaro and
Ashley Rea.

Yoder returns as a graduate student after a stellar undergraduate career at SRU. Yoder, the 2019 PSAC Tournament MVP, played every second of the 2021 season as The Rock's starting goalkeeper. She finished the campaign with a 0.97 goals against average, 64 saves and a .771 save percentage.

A decorated member of the program, Yoder enters the 2022 season slated third in SRU history in goalie wins (32) as well as fourth in shutouts (19), fourth in saves (176) and fourth starts by a goalkeeper (45).

Swope and Mascaro both saw action in all 19 contests last season. Swope, a 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, ranked third on the team last year in goals (7) and points (19) while tying for third in assists (5) while placing 36 of 55 (.655) shots on goal. Mascaro finished the year with a career-high seven points on two goals and three assists while starting all 19 games.

Rea and Reifenstahl are the remaining seniors to have played in at least 10 games a season ago. Making a significant contribution to The Rock's offense, Rea scored a career-high eight points on four goals in 2021. Reifenstahl was a key member on SRU's stellar defense.

The senior class is rounded out by Lawler, who saw action in one game last season, and Mihalik who will continue to serve as a backup for Yoder in goal.

ROCK SOLID DEFENSE
A season ago, Slippery Rock built a backline that was first in the PSAC in scoring margin (+1.65), tied for fourth in shutouts (9), sixth in opponent scoring average (.95) and seventh in goals allowed (19). Slippery Rock allowed one or less goals in 15 of its 19 contests a season ago.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
West Virginia Wesleyan were picked to place fourth in the Mountain East Conference South Division for the 2022 season. The Bobcats finished last season averaging 1.17 goals per game.

Top returners for the Bobcats include Kameron Bonneau and Paloma Zamora, who both recorded four points on two goals a season ago. The pair are the only returning members to have scored at least one goal a season ago.

Guiding the defense will be starting goalkeeper Ally Moore. During her freshman season, Moore played 1378:51 minutes of a possible 1693:51 while producing a .786 save percentage and 1.17 goals against average on the way to registering a 6-5-3 record.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Fairmont State was selected to finish second in the MEC North this season, following an 8-8-3 performance and trip to the MEC Tournament Semifinals in 2021. The Falcons rounded out last season scoring 1.74 goals per game.

The Falcons welcome back a solid group of returners led by Kiera Kuzinski and Jessica Schneider. Kuzinski ended the 2021 season in fine fashion with 26 points on 12 goals and two assists while putting .517 percent of her shots on goal. Schneider tallied 12 points on five goals and two assists with .640 percent accuracy placing shots on goal.

FSU also returns seven other goal scorers from the 2021 squad who combined for 12 of its 33 points a season ago.

Taylor Kennedy led the Falcons a season ago in goal playing all but 74:06 possible minutes. Kennedy finished the season with a 1.25 GAA, .803 save percentage and 98 saves over 19 contests.
