2021-22 CoSIDA Men's Track & Field / Cross Country Academic All-America Team
Â
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University track and field standout
Jason Goodman was named to first team Academic All-America honors when the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the track and field / cross country Academic All-America teams Wednesday.
Â
The Academic All-America Team selected by CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom.
Â
In order to be eligible for the academic honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing and athletic eligibility, must maintain above a 3.30 cumulative GPA at the time nominations are due and must have legitimate athletic credentials. All cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field performances are considered. Honorees must first be named to first team Academic All-District honors in their region before advancing to the national ballot.
Â
Goodman, a graduate student from Allison Park, Pennsylvania, earns his third straight Academic All-America honor after previously earning second and third team honors in each of the last two years. The multi-event specialist earned his undergraduate degree from SRU in exercise science with a 3.95 GPA.
Â
On the track, Goodman is a four-time PSAC champion in the multi-event specialties and swept the PSAC titles this year by winning the heptathlon indoor and the decathlon outdoor. He posted the top scores among all athletes in the region in both disciplines and ranked 18th in Division II this spring in the decathlon with an NCAA provisional qualifying score of 6,791 points.
Â
Goodman's selection to the Academic All-America team gives Slippery Rock a total of 11 Academic All-Americans for the 2021-22 academic year, setting a new record for SRU for the most in one academic year by shattering the former mark of six (2020, 2016, 2014, 2012). It also brings The Rock's total number of honorees to 119 since the program's inception in 1970. That total leads all schools in the Atlantic Region and ranks in the top 10 nationally among Division II programs.
Â
Slippery Rock's 10 other Academic All-Americans in 2021-22 are Jena Reinheimer (track and field), Marianne Abdalah (track and field, cross country), Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez (tennis), Charleigh Rondeau (lacrosse), Connor Hamilton (baseball), Henry Litwin (football), Austin Wayt (football), Cinque Sweeting (football),
Mo Kanani (men's soccer) and Jordyn Minda (women's soccer).
