MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team sits in fourth place at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships after the second of three days of competition wrapped up Friday evening from Millersville University.

Shippensburg is out front with 76 points in the team race, followed by Edinboro with 40 points in second place. East Stroudsburg is third with 39.5 points with SRU in fourth with 37 points. West Chester rounds out the top five with 17.5 points.

Slippery Rock was led on day two of the competition by a pair of individual victories as graduate student
Jason Goodman claimed the league title in the decathlon and freshman
AJ Virata picked up his first career title with a win in the high jump.

The Rock scored 17 total points in the decathlon with Goodman picking up 10 points for his win after posting an NCAA provisional score of 6,772 points.
Gavin Thomas also earned an All-PSAC finish in third place to score six points for the team after he scored 5,710 points in the decathlon.
Kyle Adams tacked on one point in eighth place with 5,281 points in the event.

Virata kicked off a busy weekend for himself by winning the high jump right before heading over to the start line for the 100-meter dash prelims. He cleared 2.02 meters to win the high jump thanks to a first attempt clearance at the 2.02m height. Virata then went over to the 100m and ran the fourth-fastest time in the prelims at 10.80 seconds to qualify for Saturday's final. He then closed out a long day by qualifying for the finals in the 200-meter dash with the second best time at 21.61 seconds.

SRU also picked up four points Friday in the discus with
Joshua Gose placing fifth with a throw of 44.61 meters. Â

In addition to the event finals that took place Friday, Slippery Rock also saw two athletes get through preliminary rounds and into Saturday's finals.
Shannon Dooley ran a season-best time of 1:54.98 in 800-meter prelims to lock up a spot in Saturday's finals.
Brenden Lewis won his 110-meter hurdle heat in 15.08 seconds, but was disqualified after the race for by the meet referees. The SRU coaching staff filed a protest to reinstate Lewis and it was granted, sending him through to the final as the No. 2 qualifier.

Competition will resume Saturday at 12:35 p.m. on the final day of the competition with the team title set to be decided following the 4x400-meter relay around 4:10 p.m.
