Competition in the 2022-23 season opener began at 1 p.m. and didn't wrap up until after 10 p.m. as a total of 55 college teams representing all divisions were in action at the meet.

The Rock only sent 18 men to the competition and came away with 15 PSAC marks and two NCAA provisional marks. Those NCAA marks both came in the throws with Joshua VanDeMark and Joshua Gose earning runner-up honors in the two disciplines. The Rock also picked up a pair of PSAC qualifying performances in the 60-meter hurdles with freshman Matthew Crow leading the way in 10th place at 8.42 seconds. Brenden Lewis followed in 15th at 8.63 seconds.

Freshman Kadin Johnson had a strong collegiate debut to place ninth in the 400-meter dash in 50.13 seconds. He then joined with Virata, Dworek and Alex Dickson to take seventh in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:24.78.

The final PSAC mark of the opener came from Dan Hyatt, who took seventh in the seeded section of the pole vault with a clearance of 4.50 meters.

Slippery Rock sent a limited roster to YSU this week with most of its distance runners still recovering from cross country season. The Rock's multi-event athletes will open their season Saturday and Sunday at the Mike Kowal Multi Meet with SRU hosting the first four events Saturday and Edinboro hosting the conclusion Sunday.

This weekend marks the only competition for SRU in 2022 as the team will break after this weekend for finals and the holidays before returning to competition in January.
