Rock lands four All-PSAC West honorees

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team garnered four 2022 All-PSAC West honorees, the league office announced Thursday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team garnered four 2022 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division honorees, the league office announced Thursday.
 
Nina King and Julia Mascaro were named first team All-PSAC West honorees while Brooke Riefenstahl and Kayla Swope earned second team All-PSAC West accolades.
 
King, a sophomore defender from Washington, Pennsylvania, appeared in 18 matches for The Rock, all being starts. A trusted member of the SRU backline, King aided in a defense that allowed the third-fewest goals in the conference, with just 12, in addition to holding its opponents to the third-lowest scoring average in the PSAC at 0.67 goals per game. For her efforts, King picked up the second All-PSAC West honor of her career.
 
Mascaro, a senior midfielder from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, started all 18 contests she appeared in for SRU. Mascaro made her mark as the squad's leading facilitator having recorded a team-high five assists on the year.
 
Riefenstahl, a senior defender from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, earned her second all-conference honor after starting all 19 matches as a member of the Rock-solid defense that surrendered the fourth-fewest regular-season goals in program history. Riefenstahl contributed offensively this season as well with five points on two goals and one assist. Riefenstahl has now earned all-conference accolades twice in her career.
 
Swope, a senior forward from Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, picked up her second All-PSAC West honor after starting all 19 matches for The Rock. Swope, a pivotal member of the Slippery Rock offense, led the team with 10 points on three goals and four assists in addition to supporting an attack that produced the third-most goals in the division with 23.
 
Following a great four-year career at The Rock, Swope leaves the program ranked 11th in program history in career assists (17), 18th in total points (53) and 20th in goals (18).
 
Across the division, Gannon's Sarah Fails was named PSAC Western Division Athlete of the Year while teammate Ella Fadale was named the Western Division Rookie of the Year and Golden Knight head coach Colin Petersen received his fourth PSAC West Coach of the Year honor.
 
Mercyhurst's Taryn Baxter rounded out the individual honorees by being named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year.
 
Slippery Rock concluded the 2022 season with a 7-4-8 overall record and 6-3-7 mark in the conference after making its 12th consecutive trip to the PSAC Tournament. SRU has established itself as one of the top programs in all of the NCAA Division ll with 26 consecutive winning seasons.
