LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University women's basketball senior Kennedy Middleton was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
 
Monday's honor is the first of Middleton's career and the second consecutive week that SRU garnered a Defensive Athlete of the Week selection.
 
Middleton earned the weekly accolade after helping power The Rock to a 2-0 record with wins over Notre Dame College and Ursuline College. Middleton collected two consecutive double-doubles while averaging 13.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and 9.5 defensive rebounds per game, to go along with one block and three steals.
 
Middleton tallied 17 points and 16 rebounds in SRU's 76-63 victory against NDC and followed the Notre Dame game up with a 10-point, 10-rebound performance in The Rock's 66-62 win over the Arrows. She has now tallied a double-double in three of Slippery Rock's four contests this season.
 
In four starts this season, Middleton has averaged 15.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game. Around the division her numbers rank her second in rebounds per game and ninth in points per game.
 
Winners of three-straight games, Slippery Rock returns from its road-trip to host Malone University for its home-opener 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morrow Field House.
