Selfridge earns All-PSAC West honor

Slippery Rock volleyball standout Erica Selfridge was named to the 2022 All-PSAC West Team, the league office announced Thursday with the unveiling of its postseason awards.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Slippery Rock University volleyball standout Erica Selfridge was named to the 2022 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Team, the league office announced Thursday with the unveiling of its postseason awards.

Selfridge, a sophomore outside hitter from Dubois, Pennsylvania, earned second team all-conference recognition. She is the first Rock athlete to receive all-conference honors since Erinn Kahoe and Shayla Ray in 2018 and the first SRU outside hitter to do so since Sarah Cadwallader in 2012.

After enjoying a solid freshman campaign in 2021, Selfridge had a breakout season as sophomore this year. She started all 30 matches and closed the year with 275 kills on a .181 attack percentage to go with 347 digs, 33 aces and 27 blocks.

Selfridge finished the year leading SRU in total kills and kills per set (2.62) while ranking second in aces, second in digs and third in attack percentage. Inside the PSAC West, she ranked ninth in kills per set and seventh in digs per set (3.30).

A versatile athlete capable of helping The Rock in every facet of the sport, Selfridge compiled eight kill-dig double-doubles and even two kill-assist-dig triple-doubles when she was forced into assisting with setting duties for Slippery Rock in the late stages of the season due to injuries within the program.

Selfridge helped to lead Slippery Rock to one of its best seasons in recent memory as SRU went 14-16 overall and just missed out on qualifying for the PSAC Tournament with an 8-8 league record.

The Rock's 14 overall wins represented the second most victories for the program since 2012 while the 8-8 league record marked the first time SRU has finished the season with a .500 or better winning percentage in league competition since 2006.

Selfridge has yet to miss a match through her first two collegiate seasons, starting 59 of a 60 matches played. She'll enter her junior year in 2023 already needing only 131 kills to break into SRU's top 20 list for career kills.

Elsewhere in the division, Clarion's London Fuller was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year while Gannon took the other three major awards as Emma Hall was named the Defensive Athlete of the Year, Arslan Bengisu earned Freshman of the Year accolades and Matt Darling was tabbed the PSAC West Coach of the Year.
