PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team put three runners in the top 10 and edged conference and regional rival Seton Hill by five points to win the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Saturday at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.

The Rock entered the meet ranked third in the Atlantic Region, one spot behind No. 2 Seton Hill, but placed three runners in the top 10 and had their fifth scorer place nine spots ahead of the Griffins' final scorer to earn a five-point win. SRU posted a score of 46 points with Seton Hill taking second with 51 points. Division I St. Bonaventure was third with 97 points, followed by California (Pa.) with 103 points and Point Park rounding out the top five with 115 points.

Two Division I teams were in action Saturday with St. Bonaventure and Duquesne in a field that included runners from 16 different teams and 12 teams that posted a complete score.

Marianne Abdalah led the way with a third place finish after covering the 5,000-meter course in 18:48.
Anna Igims took seventh in 19:00 and
Madison Murtland was ninth in 19:13 to give SRU three runners in the top 10.

Ruthie Hughes was close behind in 12th place in 19:26 and
Jennifer Cichra sealed the win in 16th place in 19:41 as the final scorer.

Steph Keelon was 29th in 20:19 and
Skye Hackathorn rounded out the top seven in 33rd in 20:24.

A total of 135 runners finished the race.
Â
Slippery Rock will take next weekend off before returning to action Oct. 22 at its only home meet of the year with the Bill Lennox Invitational at the Lawrence Country Fairgrounds.
