SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team took first place at the Bill Lennox Invitational Saturday in its lone home meet of the season at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

The Rock put all five scorers in the top 13 places to run away with the team title with 38 points. California (Pa.) took second with 72 points and Clarion rounded out the top three with 84 points. Concord was fourth with 97 points and Gannon capped the top five with 118 points.

A total of eight teams recorded a score and 86 individuals completed the 6,000-meter course.

Marianne Abdalah led Slippery Rock with an individual win and broke her own course record in the process with a time of 22:17. She bettered her previous course record of 22:26 that was set in 2021.

Anna Igims took sixth place in 23:19 and
Jennifer Cichra was eighth in 23:32 to give The Rock three runners in the top 10.

Madison Murtland was 12th in 23:47 and
Ruthie Hughes capped the scorers in 13th place in 23:50.

Chelsea Hunt was 31st in 25:02 and
Marie Scarpa was 34th in 25:11 to round out the top seven runners for SRU.

Saturday marked the final tune-up for SRU before championship season. The Rock will take next week off before competing in the PSAC Championships Nov. 5 at Mansfield University.
