SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team will open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play when it hosts Clarion University 1 p.m. Wednesday at James Egli Field.

The Rock clinched a 6-0 shutout victory over the Golden Eagles at James Egli Field. SRU was led on offense by
Jordyn Minda and
Rachel Edge, with each scoring two goals and passing out one assist. Tyler Spence and
Georgia Nagucki each added a score as well.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
LAST TIME OUT: The Rock defeated Fairmont State University, 2-0, on the road in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Faith Diffenbacher scored the game's first goal, which was also her first collegiate score, while
Rachel Edge netted SRU's second goal to secure the 2-0 shutout victory.
ON THE EDGE OF GLORY: Edge, who was named the 2019 PSAC West Athlete of the Year, is picking up where she left of having scored a goal in both matches of the young 2021 season. For her efforts in the opening week, she was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career.
AIDING THE OFFENSE: Kayla Swope assisted on both goals in the victory over Fairmont State. The multi-assist game was the second such of her career; she also had two assists in SRU's 4-0 win over Gannon at home in 2019.
SUCCESS vs. CLARION: Several Rock players have had great success against Clarion over their careers. In three starts, Yoder has made 10 saves without allowing a single goal. Minda has scored four goals over her career vs. the Golden Eagles in addition to passing out two assists. Edge has three goals and two assists against Clarion while Swope has two assists.
SPREADING THE WEALTH: SRU's offense is not shy about putting a boot on the ball. In the win over Fairmont State Edge paced the offensive attack with five shots,
Sydney Patrick took three,
Ashley Rea fired two and Diffenbacher, Nagucki, Swope and
Kylee Kosek all added one shot apiece.
SHUT IT OUT: With the win over the Falcons, The Rock secured it 41st shutout since
Jessica Giegucz became head coach. When it comes to matches against the Golden Eagles, of the 26 meetings, 15 have been shutout victories for SRU.
SHES A KEEPER: Emma Yoder continues a strong senior campaign having registered seven saves while facing 12 shots against Fairmont State and not allowing a single goal for her 12th career shutout. On the season she has now compiled nine saves, a .818 save percentage and a 0.90 goals against average.
STRONG SECOND HALVES: Through two games, three of The Rock's four goals have come in the second half of games.
CORNER DOMINANCE: Slippery Rock holds a commanding 20-4 advantage in corner kicks over its opponents so far this season.
UNBEATEN STREAK ON THE LINE: With a victory or tie against Clarion, Slippery Rock will start the season with an unbeaten streak of at least three games for the first time since the 2012 season.
COMFORT IN EGLI FIELD: Since the reign of Giegucz began in 2015, SRU has recorded a 25-10-2 (.695) record at Egli Field, along with outscoring opponents 88-34 with 14 matches being shutouts.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Alexa Ream was named head coach of the Golden Eagle soccer program in March 2020, and will enter her first season at the helm in 2021.
Offensively Clarion is led by Kayla McNamara, Alexis Moyer and Grave Mullen who all played the entirety of the five spring games in 2020. Goalkeeper Brynn Markley leads the defense coming off of the spring season with eight saves, a .722 save percentage and a 2.00 GAA.
