CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's cross country team posted a perfect score to run away with the team title at the Marty Uher Invitational hosted by California University (Pa.) Saturday at Roadman Park.

The Rock swept the top five places in the race to post a perfect score of 15 points to win the team race. Indiana (Pa.) was a distant second with 56 points, followed by Cal U in third with 67 points and Alderson Broaddus in fourth with 111 points.

Four teams and 38 total runners took part in the 4,730-meter race that served as the season opener.

West Virginia University transfer
Marianne Abdalah wasted little time in making her mark at Slippery Rock as she ran away from the field to win the race by nearly a full minute. She crossed the line in 18:17.9 for a comfortable victory in her SRU debut.

Anna Igims took runner-up honors in 19:12.
Lexie Firment followed in third place in 19:24, while
Chelsea Hunt was fourth in 19:32 and
Madison Murtland rounded out the perfect score in fifth place in 19:35.

Katie Plassio took eighth in 19:48 and
Steph Keelon was 11th in 19:55 as Slippery Rock placed seven runners in the top 11.

Annie Nunley was 14th (20:30), followed by
Morgan Dennison in 17th (21:02) and
Marie Scarpa in 19th (21:06) to round out the top 10 finishers for SRU.

Thursday marked the first of four regular season races Slippery Rock will run in this fall before reaching the conference championships. The Rock will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Doug Watts Invitational hosted by Edinboro University.
