Edge and Minda named to USC Scholar All-America Team

Slippery Rock women’s soccer standouts Rachel Edge and Jordyn Minda had their outstanding work both in the classroom and on the field recognized recently when the duo was named to the USC Scholar All-America Team.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University women's soccer standouts Rachel Edge and Jordyn Minda had their outstanding work both in the classroom and on the field recognized recently when the duo was named to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Team.
 
To be eligible for USC Scholar All-America recognition, student-athletes must be a junior or above in academic standing, maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA throughout their career while starting more than 50 percent of all games and being a significant contributor to their team.
 
Edge, a second team honoree, carries a 3.41 GPA as a Biology major while Minda, an Exercise Science major with a 3.86 GPA, received third team recognition. Slippery Rock's two USC Scholar All-America selections was the most of any Atlantic Region program and tied for third across all of Division II.
 
The academic honors are just the latest in what has been a long line of awards for SRU's senior duo this postseason.
 
Edge starred for The Rock in 2021 as the senior forward totaled 33 points on 13 goals and seven assists while posting five game-winning goals over 19 games played. Her stellar play was recognized by earning first team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division honors in addition to being a consensus first team all-region selection by the USC and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association as well as a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
 
A native of Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, Edge, who recently joined The Rock's women's basketball team, leaves SRU as one of the women's soccer program's most decorated student-athletes as the 2019 PSAC West Athlete of the Year ranks fourth all-time in points (80), fifth in assists (22), sixth in goals (29) and ninth in game-winning goals (7).
 
Minda also enjoyed a standout year for The Rock in 2021. One of six SRU players to start all 19 games, Minda tallied 21 points on eight goals, two of which were game-winners, and five assists.
 
At the conclusion of the season, Minda was named a first team All-PSAC West performer for what was the third all-conference honor of her career, while joining Edge as a consensus all-region honoree. Minda also was recently named a CoSIDA Academic All-American for the second time in her career. She is the only student-athlete in program history to earn the prestigious honor twice.
 
Minda started all 60 games of her collegiate career and ranks 11th in program history in all-time goals (23), 16th in points (58), 15th in starts and sixth in game-winning goals (10).
 
The 2021 USC Scholar All-America Team will be recognized in a formal ceremony during the United Soccer Coaches Convention Jan. 22 at the in the Kansas City Convention Center.
 
The duo helped to lead Slippery Rock to a 12-4-3 overall record and an 11-3-2 PSAC mark in 2021. SRU advanced to the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament and narrowly missed earning an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.
 
SRU has established itself as one of the top programs in all of NCAA Division ll with 25 consecutive winning seasons. The streak is the seventh longest in NCAA history. Slippery Rock has won at least 10 games in a season for 23 straight years while also making eight NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 13 seasons.
