Brentham paces Rock men to fifth at regionals

Ethan Brentham picked up an All-Region honor with a 23rd place finish to lead The Rock men to a fifth place finish in the team standings at the Atlantic Region Championships Saturday at Lock Haven.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team recorded its highest finish at a regional meet in six years to place fifth at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships Saturday at Lock Haven University.
 
The fifth place finish is the highest for The Rock men since the 2015 season when SRU also placed fifth. SRU entered the meet Saturday having not finished inside the top 10 at the regional since that 2015 season.
 
Charleston (W.Va.) put five runners in the top eight to run away with the team title with 22 points. Edinboro was second with 71 points and Concord finished third with 98 points to round out the three teams that will represent the region at the National Championships in two weeks. Shippensburg took fourth with 116 points and SRU rounded out the top five with 202 points.
 
Davis & Elkins was sixth with 203 points, followed by West Liberty (211), Indiana (230), Lock Haven (240) and Bloomsburg (272) rounding out the top 10.
 
Ethan Brentham led the way for The Rock, covering the 10,000-meter course in 32:10 to place 23rd overall and earn his first career All-Region honor. The top 25 finishers are recognized as All-Region runners by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
 
Benjamin Buckless was the second SRU runner in 34th place in 32:35. Troy Hart followed in 40th in 32:47, while Devon Navaroli was 44th in 32:56 and Shannon Dooley was 65th in 33:36 to cap the scorers.
 
Slippery Rock's entries were rounded out by Tucker Davis in 66th in 33:42 and Logan Hogue in 107th in 35:12.
 
A total of 157 runners and 23 complete teams finished the race Saturday.
 
The regional meet marked the end of the 2021 season for the SRU men, who will now turn their focus to the indoor track and field season that begins the first weekend in December.
