QUICK HITS
• In final preparation for the season opener, SRU faced Akron University for an exhibition match ending in a 97-54 Zips win in Akron, Ohio Nov. 9.
• The Rock returns just four players from its 2019-20 team, that went 8-20 overall and 6-16 in the conference, while welcoming 11 newcomers including three new faces that will likely debut in the starting lineup.
• Following the two road games in West Virginia, Slippery Rock will travel home for its home opener against Ursuline College Nov. 17.
• Slippery Rock will look to go 2-0 through the weekend as it has not opened a season with a pair of wins since the 2016-17 season over Johnson C. Smith University and Fayetteville State University.
ACTION AT AKRON RECAP
Slippery Rock lost to University of Akron, 96-48, in its second exhibition game Nov. 9 at the James A. Rhodes Arena.
The Rock proved to be a capable opponent for the Zips for the opening half of the first quarter as Akron jumped out to a 17-9 lead midway through the first quarter which Slippery Rock would answer with an impressive 13-6 run to eventually tie the score 22-22 with 8:37 left in the first half.
However, any thought of an eventual Slippery Rock lead was put to rest when the Zips closed the first half on a 21-11 run, while also going on to extend its lead to as many as 43 points on its way to a 97-54 win over SRU.
GREAT GUARDS
The pair of,
Deleah Gibson and Isabella Middleton, continue to show their massive potential alongside starting point guard
Daeja Quick. The trio were the only Rock players to have scored over 20 points combined through two exhibition games while collectively going 9-of-11 from 3-point range.
Gibson scored 22 points though the week leading from long range with four total 3-pointers while Middleton tallied 21 points featuring three baskets from 3-point range. For the week, Quick scored a team-high 26 total points with two 3-point buckets in addition to dishing out seven total assists.
QUICK'S FINAL FIRSTS
Redshirt senior guard
Daeja Quick returns for her last season at The Rock capitalizing off of the extra year of eligibility offered by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In her first two games of the 2019-20 season, Quick tallied 30 total points, including a stellar 19-point showing against Elizabeth City while dishing out five assists while making one steal over the weekend.

Jamiyah Johnson held up to her notable reputation through two exhibition matches played for The Rock. In her debut against Ohio State, she recorded a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds while falling two points away from a second one at Akron with eight points and 12 rebounds.
Johnson proved through the preseason why she is ranked fifth among all active NCAA athletes, regardless of division, in career double-doubles at Davis & Elkins.
Johnson has averaged 23.3 ppg and 18.3 rpg in six games over her career at D&E against Notre Dame and West Virginia State.
