SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's cross country team placed second at the Bill Lennox Invite hosted by The Rock Saturday at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

Division I Youngstown State took the team title with 26 points after placing three runners in the top five. Slippery Rock was second with 56 points, followed by Gannon in third with 71 points. Cal U (124), Lake Erie (142), Frostburg State (145), Fairmont State (185) and Lorain County Community College (189) rounded out the team scorers.

Benjamin Buckless led Slippery Rock with a sixth place finish after covering the 8,000-meter course in 26:39.
Shannon Dooley followed in ninth place in 26:58 and
Troy Hart took 10th in 27:02 to give SRU three finishers inside the top 10 overall.

Devon Navaroli was the fourth scorer in 20th place in 27:38 and
Ethan Brentham capped the scorers in 23rd place in 27:59.

The Rock's top seven finishers were rounded out by
Noah Yake in 25th in 28:11 and
Nathan Eadie in 26th in 28:14.

Saturday marked Slippery Rock's lone home meet of the year and the last official home cross country meet in the career of head coach
John Papa, who announced this week that he will retire on June 3, 2022 after 35 years as the head cross country and track and field coach.

The meet also marked the final tune-up before championship season for Slippery Rock, which will take next weekend off before returning to action Friday, Oct. 22 at the PSAC Championships hosted by Kutztown.
