Â
MERCYHURST RECAP
After overcoming an early 13-4 deficit, Slippery Rock led for the final 28 minutes en route to a 69-64 victory on the road at Mercyhurst on Wednesday.
Â
Slippery Rock shined defensively against the Lakers as The Rock limited Mercyhurst to a 28.8 overall field goal percentage and a 22.7 percent showing from 3-point range. Mercyhurst's 17 made field goals were the fewest allowed in a game by The Rock this season while the Lakers' 64 points was the third lowest point total by a Rock opponent in 2019-20.
Â
IRON WOMEN
All five members of Slippery Rock's starting lineup (Quick, Hinderliter, Johnson, Gibson and Ketterer) are averaging at least 28 minutes played per game this season. Of the 18 teams in the PSAC, Shippensburg University is the only school to play their starters more than The Rock.
Â
Their playing time has only increased as the season has went on. Over the last four games, Johnson and Hinderliter hasve played 30 or more minutes in all four games. Ketterer and Quick have played 30 or more minutes three times over that stretch and Gibson has done the same twice.
Â
ROCK AMONG NATION'S BEST IN MADE FREE THROWS
In addition to leading the PSAC, Slippery Rock ranks third in Division II and seventh in the nation regardless of division (I, II or III) in free throws made with 312. On an individual level, Hinderliter leads the entire nation (Division I, II and III) with 125 made free throws.
Â
ROCK EARNS ANOTHER TIGHT VICTORY
Slippery Rock's five-point win against Mercyhurst marked the 12th game this season for The Rock that has been decided by 10 points or less. Of those 10 games, seven have been decided by five points or less, five of which have resulted in Slippery Rock victories.
Â
With 10 games remaining in the regular season, Slippery Rock is well on pace to surpass its previous five-year high for close games in a season of 13 in 2016-17. SRU is 31-29 in games decided by 10 points or less dating back to the 2014-15 season.
Â
HINDERLITER CONTINUES TO CLIMB ALL-TIME POINTS LIST
Hinderliter enters the Edinboro game ranked third in program history for points in a career with 1,558.
Â
Hinderliter, who ranks 13th among all active NCAA Division II players in scoring, is on pace to finish her career with 1,756 points which would rank second in program history for points in a career behind only Heather Kearney (1,760 points / 1995-99).
Â
Currently, Hinderliter trails Kory Fielitz (1,694 points / 1990-94) for second place in program history. For Hinderliter to pass Kearney for the program record she would need to average 20.2 points per game over SRU's final 10 contests.
Â
ANOTHER DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR GIBSON
Gibson has been a double-double machine for The Rock as of late. The senior forward picked up her third double-double of the season in Slippery Rock's win against Mercyhurst via an 11-point, 10-rebound effort. All of Gibson's double-doubles this year have come over Slippery Rock's last four games.
Â
KETTERER MATCHES CAREER-HIGH BLOCK TOTAL
Ketterer continued her recent block surge with a career-high matching three rejections at Mercyhurst. Previously, Ketterer also had three-block games earlier this season against Lock Haven and Cal U.
Â
Ketterer, who now leads SRU with 17 blocks this season, has tallied 10 rejections over the last six games. Her 17 blocks ranks 12th in the PSAC this season. Over her career, Ketterer has tallied 34 blocks, the 18th most in program history.
Â
GIBSON APPROACHING THE 500/500 CLUB
Thanks to what has been a career-year, Gibson is currently on pace to become just the 17th player in program history to record 500 points and 500 rebounds in career.
Â
Entering the Mercyhurst game, Gibson has scored 589 points and grabbed 456 rebounds. With 10 games remaining in the regular season Gibson needs to average 4.4 rebounds per contest the rest of the year to achieve the feat.
Â
Gibson is enjoying a career-year as a senior with per game averages of 9.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game over 16 starts all the while leading The Rock in field goal percentage at 45.3 percent.
