AVCA Team GPA Award Winners

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For a fourth consecutive season, the Slippery Rock University women's volleyball team was selected as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award based on the squad's outstanding cumulative GPA during the 2018-19 academic year.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Slippery Rock concluded 2018-19 with a team GPA of 3.437. 12 SRU volleyball student-athletes maintained a GPA of at least 3.25 last year including Kelsey Boyle, Danielle Bywalski, Lauren Chadwick, Cacey Cook, Kaley Fucci, Stephanie Jacobsen, Erinn Kahoe, Shayla Ray, Beth Stumpf, Shannon Ream, Zoe Rivet and Lauren Weber. Boyle, Chadwick and Cook all recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs.

SRU was one of nine teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference to earn the honor from the AVCA. Other PSAC teams receiving the team academic award in addition to The Rock were East Stroudsburg, Clarion, Mercyhurst, Gannon, Indiana (Pa.), Seton Hill, Millersville and West Chester.

SRU ended the 2018 season with an overall record of 11-16. Included in the 11 victories were eight conference wins. The eight PSAC victories represented the second-highest league-win total by SRU dating back to the 2012 campaign.

Slippery Rock begins its 2019 season Sept. 6-7 with three matches at the Raider Classic in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
